So, it's like this. I've been reading novels now for 4-5 years, and you start getting picky now after reading all of the cliche and ordinary novels. While I am not against those cliches too much, I don't like them a lot either. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any novels fitting these requirements.

  • If possible, no harem, but not absolutely necessary
  • Please Please Please NO mc getting suppressed like a dog all the time. I prefer a more domineering mc
-Right, I forgot to say that this should be a cultivation novel. It can also be a martial arts novel like Martial Arts Master.
-Reincarnation is okay, but it would be better if there is none, because that usually leads to a lot of cramp later about how he is guilty and blah blah blah. That's how I dropped Long Live Summons. Good plot, but the excessive self blame was really getting to me.
Note: The next point is the most important.

-The main question for this discussion, and the one in the title, is an mc with progressive improvement. By that I mean I want the mc to sit down and cultivate and improve, not the novel saying "And so he cultivated for ten days and broke through to the 2nd stage of Qi Cultivation." No, I want something more like "He cultivated for five days and broke through to the 2nd stage of Qi Cultivation. A couple days later, he broke through in his Pure Lightning Art, reaching the 3rd level."

You get what I'm saying? I don't like the whole breaking through in battle thing. I also don't like authors who skimp on the cultivating sessions, I want full details! It would be best if the mc has great perception and comprehends things easily. Please note that easily does not in any way mean instantly. I'm talking about an hour to the initial stage, a couple days to minor completion, several days to greater completion, and a month or two to completely mastered. Can get longer if cultivation starts to take longer, like 10 years to raise one stage (reference Lord Xue Ying).

Also, the story cannot be too slow. I read all of Reverend Insanity and an not planning to read another such slow novel anytime soon. Oh, and please make sure the novels have at least 100+ translated chapters.

If you are wondering what novels fit most of what I asked for, look at Peerless Battle Spirit and especially Eternal Reverence which fits my specifications to a tee. Also, most I Eat Tomatoes novels are like this, so don't recommend those either as I have read all of his books.

Alright that's it. Please give me some ideas guys I'm desperate right now!

I wouldn't call the plot of Long Live Summons good. Yue Yang just picks up women as if they were his summoned beasts, they all fall in love with for no reason at all, and the heroines are all just one-dimensional cardboard cut-outs who love him just because (the princess had absolutely no reason to be in love with him, neither does his original fiancee or fiancee's cousin...I think only the first girl Ning somebody has a real reason to like him, and you can tell how generic and flat they are when I can't even remember any of their bloody names). And Yue Yang keeps pulling things out of his ass, which was so wtf (like that stupid dual fish technique during the Yue family tournament). He just receives random power ups for no reason other than because the author says so.

Also, for a summoning novel, he spends more time using his innate whatever martial arts that can instant-kill his enemies than actually using his summoned beasts. So we get this Pokemon-Dragonball martial arts hybrid where we don't know whether he's supposed to be a martial artist or a summoner.

The plot goes nowhere. It's just him picking up new girls and evolving his monsters. Yue Yang is also one of the most unlikable characters. He bullies his wolf (which is the only summoned beast I can remember because he's the only one who gets bullied, whereas the rest of the summons are so forgettable and don't add to the plot at all, mostly because he just innate-martial arts his way through enemies and they don't matter at all), treats everyone except his wives as NPCs, and kills for no good reason (because he treats them as NPCs). I know the author meant for some things to be funny, but after the first hundred chapters, the jokes just got stale, boring and repetitive, and they no longer become funny, especially when Yue Yang murders Arrogant Young Master #300 or random mook #200 for the 500th time. There's supposed to be some nonsense regarding his parents, but it gets forgotten because he runs off to chase more girls.

brockarot_falcon I don't like the whole breaking through in battle thing

Funny you mention this, because Long Live Summons is full of this. Yue Yang just pulls stuff out of his ass or get random powerups during battle for no explainable reason at all.

Sorry for the rant, but Long Live Summons plot is in no way good at all.

Tomoyuki Yeah but I was reading that at another time, years ago when I just started reading. I agree that I would probably not like it anymore now. I was just using it as an example.

brockarot_falcon You might like Walker of the Worlds then. It has a pretty good cultivation description and the world building is good too.

Thanks, I'll definitely try it. I tried it before but did not read enough so I'll pick it up again
