Recently I have been getting ads at the bottom of the screen while reading on the app has this been happening to anyone else and if so tell me your thoughts

Hasn't happened for me. The spam I've been getting is my messages filling up with notification that someone I don't know has sponsored a book I don't read with 5000 coins.

Yeah it has, I find it even more annoying than the message spam for people with too much money sending gifts. Webnovel is my go to place to read novels largely due to there not being any ads spammed in your face but yeah…

Even worse is the message stating that you supposedly support your author with this. I honestly doubt fanfic and uncontracted author get any benefits for having ads slapped on their works.

One of the reasons, that I read on webnovel is because they had no fucking ads. But now. Maaaaaaaaaaaaan are they serious? Webnovel always wants more and more money. In the future you probably even have to pay for the app or to even register an account to read novels.

To be honest it's not unexpected as webnovel is always looking into ways to implement adwalls, paywalls or any other method to extract profits. They've also scaled back their translations quite substantially to reduce their expenditure. Expecting anything other than that from webnovel is unrealistic as time and time again they've shown that only thing that matters is their bottom line and user's quality of experience comes a distant second.

The only reason you don't get 5 pop ups appearing when you read a new chapter isn't a moral issue as if they thought it would make more money they'd add it in a heartbeat but a pragmatic one as even webnovel realises that making it too obtrusive would drive away readers. I can however guarantee they'll try to push the envelope and get the maximum inconvenience people will tolerate without driving away users so I suspect you'll slowly see more ads etc added a little at a time.
