Hey people!

It seems like I have finished reading all the better novels along the xianxia / supernatural / mystery / sci-fi / xuanhuan / romance / empires & armies lines, and the remaining ones are not fulfilling.

So as a voracious reader of all sorts of light and webnovels as well as tons of paperback, I had an idea of creating a web novel epic. Simple to read, very few character transitions, use popular tropes, expand upon the mechanics, involve scientific principle and mathematical logic. What I am trying is to create a xianxia / xuanhuan like plot-driven story by disassociating the plot with typical Chinese cultural and artistic tropes and making the story more universal.

The basic outline is a child with an unknown inheritance, dating all the way back to the universal origin, and know orphaned and stranded on planet earth, with literally no idea on how to claim that inheritance. Introduce a golden-finger related to the inheritance.

Personality is out of the norm, and he doesnt want to stay in the same village where he was discovered and adopted by a shepherd, he finds to trace his origin. So the child goes out into the world, slowly awakens his own supernatural abilities (courtesy to his bloodline), interacts with other supernaturals like bloodline beings (cosmic entities, mutated beings), cultivators (spiritual cultivators like daoists, buddhists, christians etc, immortal cultivators, and runic cultivators, psychic beings / mentats, augmented beings, body refiners, alchemists, formation masters and so on) imbedded in a parallel society hidden from public view, who all have affinity and can use the energy sources like dark energy, spiritual energy - like qi in the Chinese cultivation world and many more. Thoughts?

Introduce conflicts of interests in business, politics, military and supernatural attainments. Introduce polygamy but stay away from harem life. And slowly consolidate his power and influence over the planet, build up a pseudo empire and armies of supernaturals, have ungodly advances in technology and slowly develop the human civilization.

Here i plan to introduce a cohesive system of bloodlines, inheritances, cultural influences on the characters, and just like the mc and other supernaturals advance themselves, the civilization / planet also evolves through its understanding of the supernatural, technology and economy. These go hand in hand. Like the civilization evolves based on something like the Kardashev scale, with the lowest being 0 and the highest being 9? (for scale, a type 3 civz is a galactic civz).

I have the outline prepared for upto 1500 chapters, where earth is already a type 2 civilization by 1000 chapters.

So below is a short description that i have prepared for the story. Do read:

The void observes itself and the superposition collapses, giving birth to primordial mass. This primordial mass gives birth to countless universes inside the void. These filament like universes keep on materializing and create a great diversity of oddities, life and the laws of reality. The void also gives birth to an infinite number of crystallized stones, condensed from the conscious will at the Collapse. These void stones were bound to muddle fate and destiny across countless universes.

A man escapes the greed and avarice of conscious life, with his 3-year old son and the memory of his dead wife. Unable to evade pursuit, he arranges for his son in stasis, and uses that very void stone to send him to safety.

Countless years pass by, and a shepherd on the foothills of the Himalayas finds a strange cubicle and a child within it. He adopts the child, thus changing the universal fate forever. What changes will the arrow of time bring forth?

This child bears the mandate of the void itself, and with an incomprehensible legacy, goes down the mountains, and into the world of modern earth. It is for sure that he will reach the pinnacle of this universe and trace back his origins.

Heroes, legends, spiritas, sages, immortals, gods and devils, mechas, massive worlds and civilizations covering galaxies, they are all dust before the one who carries the mandate of the void. The shepherd conquers all.

So please share your thoughts on this topic and if there are any suggestions and advices, do let me know!

P.S. IDK if this thread will take off, but i do value everyone's opinions. So dont hesitate. This story is coming out sooner or later.

This sounds very epic and well thought out. But be careful, as one little mistake with this can cause the whole story stumble and crash. Make sure you have a plan for everything before publishing so that you don't lose sight of the story line and let it go all over the place. This sounds very cool but one slip will cause the story to become extremely complicated and look like a child's jumble.

Also try not to make the beliefs you're going to bring in clash with each other too much.

This is a professional level novel.

I don't know if my opinion counts but go for it! Just make sure to be careful.

Official_jenjen thanks for the suggestion man. Have been planning on this since covid first started, but like you said, its been a bit tough to balance culture, politics and power systems as the story progresses.

Will take your suggestion to heart and will try my best.

Dark_Scholars turns out you can have the harem tag if multiple bitches love the protagonist but the protagonist only ever gets together with one of them, or not even one of them, or even if the protagonist is multi-timing behind their backs. Polygamy is when the protagonist is married to multiple women at a time.

A harem novel may or may not have polygamy, but a polygamy setting is always a harem.

          Dark_Scholars
          I strongly agree with Dark_Scholars.
Harem dilutes the actual emotional weight of character relationships in stories by literally having many of the same kind. This works for people that write tropes as characters, cause they don't really have character relations and nuances to be worried about.
But for a serious story, it just seems so out of place. Sure, there were actual societies that were polygamous, but almost all of them were very sexist. Treating women like objects goes hand in hand with collecting them like trophies. Who'd have known?
I'll have to advise against adding a harem if you want your character's relationships to actually matter to the story. (Relationships don't only mean romantic. They can mean friendship, mentorship, and whatever else.)
All in all, if you're gonna do it. I wish you luck. Be careful of the many pitfalls of a harem. Seriously. There are a lot of them.

Sounds like a big project, remember to take it one step at the time and expect it to take years to finish.
Don't get impatient, and don't give up half way. (take breaks if you need obviously)
It's something you need to dedicate yourself and like, so don't approach this half heartedly.
(I personally work on something similar in terms of scale, although different.)

Regarding harem, although I personally don't like it, there are plenty of people who do. Every genre has people who like it, so just write what you like writing, and whoever enjoys it will find your work eventually.

            Good luck!
