Don't listen to those. They're phishing scams. If you see anything like that, steer clear. Don't give your info to anyone offering any sort of contract (even if you're absolutely sure they're legit), otherwise, you're just walking into the hands of a scammer.

edit: even if they were legit, it's far more profitable (albeit more difficult) to self-publish. Contracts only sign away your rights to your own work, taking away the majority of its value from you.

My opinion? Branch out to other websites. There's nothing saying you can't. Royal Road is a good one that I myself have been looking at. Making a social media account to link them all together wouldn't be a bad idea either. Just make sure to update it along with your work.

I also saw where you said you wanted to make a manga/comic of your novel. Try making a youtube for that, since I've seen a lot of manga channels do fairly well there. Plus, it's got the added benefit of branching into something big for animations as well (take, for example, the immense amount of undertale fan-animations).

    ShoeInk Yeah I dont think contracts are worth it...the pay isn't even decent and you have 0 rights to your work in the end ,not really profitable as you say.

    Ill think about a Youtube when the story is fully written and I start drawing it out 😳

      I never knew someone went around making offers to authors out of the blue. Thanks for warning anyway.

      I think you need a great dose of popularity to even be deemed worthy of scamming. :)

      Rya_kishou If you want to hit a big market, you need to make some sacrifice, build a name to be known.... became popular. GN offered me but since it's almost same as this one we're having a chat on, I'll stay here for a while, give them some series of books, but eventually, I would like to go for a self-publish. Any platform will chase someone they can see having potential, but actually, in those group of writers they're not taking seriously in their platform already has potential... greediness of people is like a poison. Envy.... Ugh!

        They are from a company named Stary that's legit, their biggest site is Dreame, which many may already know. However, their contract offers are more scummy. They pay $150 a month for every 50k words you publish a month, which is less for more work for the $200 that Webnovel pays. They also put in their contract that, if your story makes less than $200 in three years, you've got to pay them back all the money they gave you. (of course, you can use the money they pay you to buy your own story should it make bad, but still)...

        Overally, don't sign anything with them. I did it once. Lesson learned.

        Edit: their royalties are also very lame. They only pay you like 12% of every chapter unlocked, compared to the 50% of Webnovel under an exclusive contract.

          AxlSLL thank you. I got a contract offer from them too, I was kind of considering it. This info is an eye opener for me. Thanks again

          Soleil_Lynx You do all the work for that, though, but at least you don't need to share your profits. You can self-publish your book in Amazon, if you're confident enough that it would break in the market. Some authors, took them 2 years or more, so you need good cover for that as number strategy. Amazon has input in their site how to start self-publish...

            AxlSLL If you got a diligent editor then that is a good factor, but if a lazy one, Ugh. No fat chance.

              Rya_kishou Not necessary as spy but it's unethical to come and try to offer writers here for contract.They try to get writers that can produce good content, not necessarily a bot. Like yesterday, I got a message from my inbox here and offering a contract.

                Jude_K_1656 and, from what I've heard about other authors there, almost ALL of their editors are lazy and end up ghosting you, so good luck with that

                  AxlSLL oh damn I didn't know that...I knew the pay on both WN and other sites was kinda bad but damn ...even having a pay back clause.. thats a new Level of scummy 😭 im sorry for everyone that had to deal w them holy -

                  Jude_K_1656 I have totally different plans with my novel, so contracting doesnt even remotely fall under it but yea self publishing can be hard I agree. But since I got the plans of turning it into a manga and already got a potential publisher that would Print and sell for me in future I don't need to think too much about all this. HOWEVER I agree 100% that the author World aint easy...any kind of art is hard to sell these days sadly ;;
