Hi. When signing a contract with webnovel, do you need to scan all the contract pages and upload them or only the pages where your signature is needed? Excluding the first page since there was no signature needed there.

Nana_1928 It needs to be everything. And make sure your signature is EXACTLY the same as the one in your ID or it won't go through. Good luck.

Nana_1928 I agree with jon_Kohrr: you may have to. No joke, I got my first contract kicked back three times before I got it squared away properlyšŸ˜…. My issue was printing my name. Didn’t realize that it had to be all caps, and my dumbass didn’t want to ā€˜bug my editor’. I finally broke down and asked her, and she explained it to me really easily. I miss Islinda. She was an awesome editor..😭

If your contract gets kicked back, don’t be afraid to ask for help. The editors are happy to help with that sort of issue. It’s when the questions are about features, or things that can be answered by other authors that they get annoyed. I wish you luck on your work dearā˜®ļøā¤ļøšŸ˜

Sara_Wilcox Hi, i am a webnovel author and i want to get a contract. I am already in touch with an editor from webnovel and i have been offered a contract. I want to pick the one that lets me keep my copyright ownership. I dont care if it is exclusive or not. I just want my copyright. So i would like advise on the non- exclusive contract and do i keep my copyright if i sign the non exclusive contract? You seem like a nice person and an overall expert at this kind of thing. I would be really happy if you helped me out!

        Thankyou,
(Also please refer to me with some other name than my username as its just plain annoying to have people call me that! My old self wanted that cringey name and now i dont)

Hello there dear😁 Thank you for the compliments, although I am very far from being an expert. I’m just a simple writer, but I’ll do my best to help:

If you wish to retain your copyright, then definitely go with the non-exclusive contract. You earn less(I think it’s 30% of all profits versus 50% with exclusive), but retain intellectual rights to your work. You can get gifts from readers, and post things like your Venmo and PayPal link to have your readers ā€˜support the author’.

An exclusive contract gets you paid more, but the work belongs to Webnovel then. They can basically do whatever they want with it as long as it doesn’t violate your side of the contract. It’s a risk to many authors, but I don’t mind(I love Webnovel). You also get more features when you go exclusive, but if your work is good, they’ll do promos for it anyway.

Downsides to going exclusive are: if you drop the work for any reason, or the writing content/style/etc.. takes a dip: they can assign it to another author to complete. I have never seen this done, but it is stated in the exclusive contract that this is within their rights to do. They can also sell it to another company(movie, comics, etc..), but you get 50% of all profits, and your name stays attached to the work as it’s creator. I honestly don’t know the terms for the non-exclusive contract when it comes to this. But if you hop into the InkStone discord server for writers, there’s a bunch of veteran writers that can help with specifics.

If you go non-exclusive, you can post your work wherever you see fit, but exclusively contracted works can ONLY have their free chapters posted on other sites. If it’s a locked chapter, then it’s exclusive to Webnovel, and it’s a violation to post it anywhere else. If there’s any other questions, I’ll be happy to do my best to help. Just let me know dear😊

Thank you🄰 Most of the editors that are around now are new, and still acclimating to their job(s). Webnovel Really needs to hire more, and not call them editors. I hear the title ā€˜editor’, I think it’s someone who edits works, not manages them. They should change the title of ā€˜Editors’ to ā€˜Content Managers’ instead. The other is misleading.

Oh wow, they responded to your inquiries. I do not know what happened to mine after one week. I am slightly nervous though.

That is true. It can be very overwhelming, especially when you mix in the excitement of sharing your work(s) for the first time🄳 I went through a lot of issues before I got my works out there, and I share what I know to help those in the same spot I was in. So if you(or anyone reading this), have questions or corrections: don’t be afraid to ask/speak. I’m only an author, so I can only help so much. But I’m happy to share what I know. Just ask😊

I wish the way of signing contracts would change. I'm currently struggling to purchase a printer that can both print and scan, from what I've seen it's expensive too

True, I was very confused on what 'Editor' means on here

As to printing out and signing:

I was told to use Adobe Scan and Sign, or a similar app if a printer was inaccessible to me. It’s a free app for your phone, so it won’t cost anything. I signed both of my contracts with it. Just make sure you do each one, and not just copy and paste. It’s time-consuming, but free. I hope this helped, and best of luck with your work🄳

Sara_Wilcox Holy Wacamoly! Are Apps that good now!? Lol.
So I can just scan the computer screen displaying the contract eh..
Thank you this was a huge help and a relief to my burden hahašŸ˜…

                        Sara_Wilcox
Thankyou so much! I was honestly confused on what to do because an editor i asked for help on "can't vote on your story" problem that happened just asked me if i wanted a contract or not.

I am not here for the money, i just wanted to experiment on a new type of writing style. and also this is my first ever novel i have uploaded anywhere. Again, thankyou! And i will also go on inkstone for this as you suggested.

Sara_Wilcox I don't know much about it. But when I went to talk about my problems they treat me as a fool and I was so embarrassed that I never went to ask about my problems to anyone and that disappointed me.
