1ok1 Personally, I think it’s because Webnovel is trying to get rid of their website, and is pushing the App onto everyone via the enticement of Fast Passes. It’s more secure than a website; to the point that a warning prompt pops up when you do a simple screenshot of a Work(s) when using the App(I do this as a form of note-taking for my ongoing series, and the prompt has been popping up for about a month now). I believe that it helps to cut down on the amount of pirates/pirate sites that steal content. As a contracted author, I’m all for it. I’ve found both of my Works on multiple pirate sites, and it’s beyond frustrating. Personally, I like the App better anyways, but to each their own. Hope that this helped, dear

I’ve been seeing a lot of questions about the two contracts(yes, there are TWO kinds), so I thought I’d post this helpful tidbit…

ALWAYS READ CONTRACTS THOROUGHLY! DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK AN EDITOR IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND SOMETHING! AND GETTING THE CONTRACT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU HAVE TO SIGN IT! ONLY DO SO IF YOU ARE COMFORTABLE!

Here’s the Contracts’ breakdown:

Exclusive Contract=
You receive 50% of all profits after overhead costs are taken out, but you sign your rights away. Webnovel has complete monetary control over your Work. This means NO posting locked chapters to other websites, platforms, etc.. You can post your free chapters, but not the locked ones. Those belong to Webnovel exclusively, hence the name of the contract. You cannot make and sell merchandise, or copies of the Work in any form. And all characters of the Work fall under this contract. Which means no separate side stories, spin-offs with other characters, etc.. They all fall under the rights in the contract.

Non-Exclusive Contract=
You get 30% of all profits after overhead costs are taken out, but you retain all rights to your Work. These are done through third party sites like ShareStory and what not, and they post on multiple platforms for you. You can post it anywhere, make merchandise and sell it, etc.. The Work is yours, so you can do with it whatever you want.

ONLY THE EXCLUSIVE CONTRACT QUALIFIES FOR MGS, SO LONG AS YOU MEET THE PUBLISHING REQUIREMENTS

*I am happy with the Exclusive Contract for one of my Works, but I do regret signing one for my ongoing series. I had to pass on a wonderful opportunity because I did not own the rights any longer. It depends on the importance of the Work to you, and how much effort you want to put into promoting it. If it’s all about the money for you, then I suggest the Exclusive. But if you want Any kind of control over your creation, then I suggest a Non-Exclusive.
