You can click other people's links and "help them" but you can only help a total of 5 people. However, you can be helped as many times as possible (probably?). The amount of help you can recieved depends on some mysterious algorithm as of yet, but according to the event, new users give a greater boost. There is no disadvantage for helping other people (except for gaining a negligeable advantage in the event rankings). Yes. The number of times you are helped is tracked. Top 100 get a badge.
Even though Webnovel will only reward 100 people with the badge, I hope I can still help you get the books you want.

Here's the algorithm for determining the amount of boost you receive from other established Webnovel members and your ads:
If 0-20% , each boost = 1.00-5.00%
If 20-50% , each boost = 0.05-0.10%
If 50-100% , each boost = 0.01%
New users provide x2

Example.
If I already have a 16.78% discount on my book, and someone helps me by clicking on my link, I might get a 4.22% boost.
Now I have a 21.00% discount.
Someone else clicks my link. However, I only get a 0.06% boost if they aren't a new user.
When my discount reaches 50%, each person will only be able to help me by 0.01%. Each ad will only give me 0.01%.

Summary:
You can't only watch ads to get a free book. We need to help each other.

It seems the algorithm is actually based on the number of users that have already helped you. As you get more help, you get less discount from them. The amount of help may also depend on the original price of the book.
