It used to be that the novels on webnovel where held to a certain standard. It used to be that if the standard was not upheld, people would comment and reflect on it on the rating on novels. Now however it's one poorly editet (if at all editet) MTL one after the other. Now if you try to write in the comments on novels about how bad the translation quality is, it gets deleted. If you give bad ratings. The raring you gave seem to not be counted. What is up with that?

Daoistl4XZch Stop reading new MTL novels with a lot of bad reviews. There are a lot of original creators in the industry which try their best to give their readers the best that they can give. Support them instead.

UelUel no he makes a good point, but it is not the writer's fault, it is Webnovel's fault for translating good works with low effort.

UelUel no you should rate it based on the translation, because guess what, the original writer are not the ones reading and deleting the review because only original writers can do that, and that tells you a lot. And deleting comments because of criticism is something happening too much and it is not a good thing.

@UelUel He just talking about mtl book and in case you didn't know what it is MTL stand for machine translation. It's not even a man work so he right to trash talk about it. If you still don't understand that at that point I can add another thing. MTL work have paid chapters, did you understand now? You paid for a machine translation, a thing you can do by yourself, that not what you expect from a Webnovel book translation. And when you rate something, your rate it in all the point you want, be it storyplot, character development, or even grammar, so he right to rate them 1 if the grammar suck so bad that it's unreadable and again if you think he do that for any book, you may be wrong too, we didn't know what he read. Here he just talking about the book who get mtl level translation.

Sleds_Writer I just wish Webnovel would put more effort in their translating, there are a lot of passionate writer's here and it is embarrasing that the company would tarnish the authors name with MTL books.

I think it's more of a monetization problem. I feel that when webnovel popularized original novels, translated novels became much more irrelevant due to its much smaller publishing rate compared to the rate of original novels and the amount of variety available, regardless of quality. Now, several years later after the popularization of original novels, the popularity of translated novels is at an all-time low, even when the quality is great, bringing much lower income to translators, resulting in the company resorting to MTL. I feel that in these few years, webnovel has lost a great number of readers/customers/patrons of translated novels in exchange for the counterparts of original novels. However, it could also be due to the increasing number of piracies sites available, which makes it unprofitable to even try translating their gold mines from their Chinese counterpart. Maybe they are hoarding those titles until a much higher leveled anti-piracy protection is available. Honestly, there are so many reasons, but personally, I'm leaning towards the first one.

Even though webnovel uses MTPE to facilitate translation, they do employ editors/proofreaders(HUMAN) to proofread the work before it is published. So, if the translation is bad, it should be the proofreader's fault.

however, proofreaders/editors do not have permission to DELETE comments on webnovel. Thus, there might be a possibility that the MTL he was referring to is one that is translated by webnovel users who translated novels on their own accord? without publishing rights?

or maybe webnovel deleted the comments themselves? but that will mean that they would have noticed the quality of work by that proofreaders. From experience, they will replace the proofreader to someone who is more reliable.

UelUel I'm not OP, but I think it's kind of pointless to have a rating system if you can't get a real review. That said, as a writer who writes and posts free content as a hobby, I get it. I don't like people trashing my work that I've spent thousands (not even exaggerating) of hours creating. Still, it doesn't erase the fact that reviews should either all get real reviews, good and bad, or not be able to be given at all.
