  • What is the average word count in every original chapter?

1.000-1.500 (That is the average, most around ~1.000), the longest I have ever seen 5.000+.

LoHP is around 2.000-2.500 (This is why it felt a bit heavy)

Full Mark Hidden Marriage <1.000 (This is why it felt a light story)

King of Avatar around ~1.500

The Mech Touch (Original) is around 2.500 but I heard the author wanted to make it shorter too.

The Last Wish System is ~1.500

If you could make your story shorter, you will make your reader easy to read. It also PREVENT you to write everything. It is also easier to write only 1.000 word per day than 2.500 words per day.

The bad example is this Rabbink's 1st novel. That is averagely 3.645 words so fa. Some of the comments are either had contest (the satisfied reader because they got contents) or confusing (the reader who are confused by what this Rabbink wrote, wall of text and information).

(If it is other novel long, I would reach 120 chapters or 200 chapters. However this Rabbink loves to add filler sentences like this one. Gwahahaha.)

(If you see my post, you know why this Rabbink chapter is LOOOOOONG, this Rabbink couldn't stop. Gwahahaha.)

My personal plan is to reduce it from 3.500 -> 3.000 -> 2.500 -> 2x 1.500

PS: This is a trick to make forum reader wanted to check what a bad example is. Gwahahaha.

lone97 Commonly accepted is 1k-2.5k words long, if it's shorter than 1k words for most chapters people here commonly complain, same with if it's over 2.5k words.;,;.

Besides the "average" within WN. I suggest you have your chapters word count within the range of how you write and what's the story about (genre)

Action and Adventure would have more words than that of Romance Fiction but would have less in comparison with Cultivation Novels.

After considering the genre, do consider your own writing style. If you feel like you write with fewer details, then it's fine not to have a lot within one chapter, as the story moves quite well if it's shorter.

If you're wordy, then increase it. So the readers won't feel that the plot is stale and consider you chapters as "fillers" when it's really not.

I average 3,000 words per chapter. After a year of writing that works for me. I feel less than 2,000 is too short. And I can't handle 8,000 like some Authors.

3,000 takes me approx 6 hours to write and edit. Others are quicker. When reading it gives a nice chunk of story and is long enough to fit in an event when needed.

Kinky_Kitty_System It is useful to find what kind novel you want to write. A soft and relaxing story should be around 1.000-1.500. A bit heavy should be around 2.000-2.500.

I made a mistake. My first benchmark was LoHP. That is why I write 2.500 as the guide. It often went into 3.000+
The benchmark should be 1.000 and I will end with 1.500. Lol.

I tend to totter between the 0.5K to 2K mark. My average tends to be 888 per post/chapter, which is enough for in-chapter ads.

These are just my experiences. You'll find that every writer or author has their own standards. However, I guess it's safe to assume that anything between 500 words to 2K words is an acceptable chapter size for digital reading.
