I think Anita Blake is in its own... place entirely. I mean, the entire romance line is a mess. A glorious mess, but a mess. Not in a sense that it's bad, but in a sense that in comparison to a standart romance line it's like PoE's skill trees in comparison to any other skill tree.

Lol XD
As for Bella and her choices, she is (intentionally) a type of a character everyone want to be. Except, we wouldnt want to be HER specifically coz she is very lame as a person.
But speaking of new things, and old things, and playing with ideas. A lot of cool stuff can happen by just playing with tropes. It won't be entirely original, but then, as someone said above, every story is made by rethinking every story before it.
In a sense, literature evolves just like everything else does - with trial and error.
But, anyway. In all honesty, I mostly just wanted to share. I found that cool author, Garessta, who likes to do that stuff. They don't write parodies, but they take old tropes and improve on them, make them fresh and actually making sense for once (in case of tropes that don't normally make sense). Like their story for one of the latest WPCs, My Vampire Assistant. There's only a hint of it yet, but I think its going to make something really fun of that classical FL-Vampire-Werewolf love triangle. And I know its going to be fun because 1) the story is already fun 2) I've read Garessta's other one, Eve of the Doomsday, and it did the trope deconstruction so well
