2 Questions:
Is the privileged reader program going to affect normal releases?
Despite them denying it, novels I'm following haven't been updated at all, while there are more and more chapters for the privileged readers (imbafc, rogp). Admittedly others have updated regularly, so is it just these novels? Are mass releases only going to be for privileged readers?
Since I don't follow any of the massed released novels except rogp,
(also whats with all the romance novels? Can't we have mass releases for the other ones?)
I don't know if it's true for all, but the mass releases for rogp last friday were all privileged (5 new chapters). The last chapter was uploaded July 8, and it's been 2 weeks.
This shall be where I share my history with webnovels in general, others are free to do the same
!!!This will also be a rant on SS!!!
You, if you are reading this, probably won't read it all, this is more of a rant more than anything, so there is no need to read it, feel free to post your own rant/story if you feel like it.I joined webnovel around two years ago, I still remember my "transition", which took 4 years. I was watching youtube videos until I came across an anime video, I decided why not, and watched it.
I soon became completely addicted, and content ran out ridiculously fast, seriously, I spent more time looking for content than actually watching it.
I then had an ingenious idea, why not read the mangas?
This, of course, expanded my horiozon, more content, more diversity, more entertainment. Around a year later of intense reading, I realized this too was not enough.I then had another ingenious idea, why not read the light novels?
After reading a few translated JP novels from various sites, I suddenly find a popular manhua, TDG. I really enjoyed the whole plot, but I had to quench my thirst for more. After a bit of searching, I come across WXW, which was where it was translated, and enjoyed it immensly, I took my Kindle, and found in "article mode" you could load 30 chapters and read them continuously, this was the start of my addiction.
I found NU, and ran around for a year discovering new novels, new sites, like GT, or liberspark. I grew interested in korean novels, like PTO, or OMA, after I devoured the JP LN/WN's. I read ten thousands upon ten thousands of chapters, even my anime addiction was not this bad. I had pretty much entered a constant schedule of checking for chapters for the constantly updated ones (around 2 chaps per day), while waiting for more chapters on other novels to binge read. Strangely enough, I hadn't discovered webnovel yet.
After I really started on the chinese novels, the addiction became worse, much muuuuch worse. I could at times stay up until 5 reading, burning through ISSTH or AGT, lesser known ones like GLD or Haker.
sigh, on a side note, because they were dropped, I discovered MTL's, and if I was really desperate, I would look for and read the raws (I know a bit of chinese, but I still prefer reading them in English).
I remember thinking, you need to pay for the raws, so why are the translations free? then I learned about ad revenue, but until then, I thought about how lucky I was.
It was around then that I started creating accounts for the different websites, and with that, I discovered Webnovel.
I remember having a positive opinion toward QiDian, because they were "official", and the reading format was really comfortable (couldn't load 30 chaps on my Kindle tho :P), and it was nicely organized.
Back then, every single chapter was free, even the "watch ad for latest chapter" wasn't implimented. As I gradually finished content on other websites, I slowly concentrated on Webnovel. The ad for chapter was created, and I was actually happy about it, the translators and authors put in a lot of work for these novels, and it felt bad just enjoying them free, especially as the other sites (specially the pirate ones) had at least a couple of ads, so in any case, I would always willingly spend the 5-8 seconds watching "War Blitz" or whatever it was.
It was around then I joined the forum, I don't talk much :P. I also seriously considered trying out translating, and later on even writing, but I had higher priorities, and I knew with my mindset, I probably wouldn't finish it, and I know how painful it is for the novel you are reading to be dropped (I'm looking at you BaiSi), IRAS or TDG are good/painful examples.
I then decided to download the app, which was extremely convenient, downloading books? Easy configuration? it was all in there. (BUT folders still don't exist, WEBNOVEL I'M WAITING)
Then... then my friends, the nightmare started.
It started slow, with the introduction of the "premium" project. DUN DUN DUUUUUN
I had around 4000 SS, I sh*t you not, purely from daily logins (back then SS had like 3 months to expire). I didn't do any daily missions usually, thats why my cultivation is still stuck at level 4, I wasn't diligent enough.
So I thought, this isn't TOO bad, I could always afford it, and if worst comes to worst, I could always pay, I actually considered paying as i enjoyed the quality, and everything was satisfactory (no folders tho).I still remember thinking, why don't they just add a couple more ads to begin with, if they don't earn enough money? I mean, the site was definitely popular enough.
It slowly got worse, more and more novels were added to the "premium project" and it took more and more to just keep up, by then, the only novels I was reading in webnovel were LHP and Super Gene. My stock dwindled out of existence.
I still had not given up all hope, they still released 1 free chapter per day... right?
well no, ROTG has been blocked nearly completely recently, despite the fact that I had read untill chater 625, waiting for the free ones to unlock so I could binge read to the finish. And the "1 free chapter" promise has been completely removed. I can't even keep up with LHP.
Now, sadly enough, I have to pass my time reading originals or the recently discovered TWO (i ignored the kingdom building genre until now) which I enjoy emmensly, and is sadly enough, one of the few novels I enjoy on webnovel that is still completely free, which will last for god knows how long.
It pains me to say this, really it does, but I will have to move on, perhaps even visit those repost sites I disliked.
This was the conclusion I had to come up with, as there was no response from Webnovel whatsoever, or the fact that they delete 1 star reviews, or the fact that the site has a few problem (I'm still waiting for the folders)
I still remember the statement made when they introduced the premium program:
"As for our free readers, don't worry"
I won't, I will probably move on, perhaps visit the site once in a while
P.S If you're wondering why I won't pay despite having considered it, if you do the math, to support 15-20 novels, the amount you pay will not be worth it.

I can relate, I also enjoy system novels a whole lot, but the problem of the original ones is that they are not planned out, or they are dropped at chapter 15.IF you really need some, you can find a few that you (probably) have not read on NovelUpdates, under the tag "System Administrator" for sentient systems, or just "Game Elements" or "Level System", but these are more like LHP or AST
a few I have enjoyed are USS and GLD (basically USS but for hate, it's also based in a futuristic cultivation society), but that's personal (I've also had to read them on lnmtl cuz they don't really have a lot of chapters)
Hope I've helped :)
Sounds interesting, why not?
FORGOT ONE THING,
The guy is a hacker and has a mysterious past, and the reason the system is so messed up is because instead of buying a VR helmet with the game, he FRIGGIN BUILDS ONE AND HACKS THE SERVERS TO ENTER!!! FOR LESS THAN A FIFTH OF THE ORIGINAL PRICE!!!Misguided_Rooster THATS why it will be interesting to read
Again, another novel request, this time it's chinese,
'Tis a story about a guy named Ye Yang, who plays a game in the modern world, the most popular one at the time.He lodges a complaint against the company for making it a buy-to-win, and receives a reply:
He can freely experience the VIP LVL 100 privileges, and of course he accepts. Thanks to this he is TRANSPORTED TO ANOTHER WORLD FOR NO EFFIN REASON, with the privileges,
Of course, you are thinking, why does this sound like the typical cliched japanese isekai novel?
Well, the privileges are locked, he can only unlock them as he levels up, which means he will still be OP, but not the oh-i-just-arrived-and-killed-a-slime-so-now-im-level-ten-billion-and-instantly-a-god OP
I have only read the first chapter, and I believe it will be interesting
