  • I’m disappointed cuz I feel Webnovel is turning more and more into wattpad. They have been pushing originals and fics more and more on the readers and neglecting the translated works.
Even the Tgfs are dominated by originals and less known novels... even the event of a week of mass releases focused only in originals.
Webnovel started with the promise of steady releases and quality translation. If I wanted originals and fanfics I’d to to wattpad, nyah! Or one of the many sites for it...
I apologize to the authors, is not that your works are bad, they are just not what I came for...

    • Yeah... it’s a pain and makes me less prone to read the novels that pop up... why oh why can’t Webnovel get that forceful ads of novels have the opposite effect?

      • Maybe they will bring it back on weekends?
I sure would’ve liked having a proper heads up before ir tho. Clicking on the messages only redirected me to featured tab today. The past days it did nothing...

      • Cantiara maybe one day those options (number/percentage) will be up to user’s choice in the app settings... xD

      • Yeah... I can’t help but worry about it since I first came to know about the hiatus...
As someone who doesn’t know what problems the author is actually facing but now knows she doesn’t want to give up on the novel I can only hope she can find a co-writer to help her to put all those ideas on paper... even if to only give the story a well deserving ending.
I also don’t know what are Webnovel’s policies in those cases where a contracted author can’t bring themselves to keep writing (for the many reasons they may have, I mean, they are humans and we get it) their novels. It’s complex, after all there is some kind of responsibility in finishing a novel as well.
Hey @CKtalon is there any means to suggest the approach of having a co-writer in those cases? The author could act as an editor? I don’t know a better term to use.. and work together to deliver it’s ideas on the novel till they are able to finish it? Maybe that could diminish the authors troubles a little and help so the novel doesn’t end um dropped or rashly finished?
As I said, I don’t know how or to whom suggest this or even if it’s really viable... as a reader and someone who tries so sympathize with the authors i wish something could be done about it. It must feel even worse being a writer forced to give up (for any reason) on a work than having a novel you are a fan of being dropped.
If it is viable, maybe it can be applied to the contracted originals as well since all writers can face problems like these. I feel it could be discussed with authors that end up having long hiatus but still have a desire to see the novel finished and think is a shame to just drop it.

        • Well... in my view is more like what @Clowniac said. Is not the use of rape in novels that is a problem per se, but the wrong use of it.

You see, when there’s killing or even torture in novels usually there’s a reason for it. Enmity, hate, revenge, also usually against said person. When there’s rape though usually the victim is innocent but a way to “hurt” the hated one. The troupe of I hate you and so will rape someone you care about to hurt you. And this you is usually a male. So tell me. Why in this case is not the hated male who gets raped? I assure he would feel more hurt and hatred this way, but instead a female is targeted instead. The secondary problem here, the primary being and innocent being the victim, is how the rape of someone is related to a man’s ego and how the victim is depicted as a sullied property of said man. And this also happens when there’s seducing instead of rape and that’s the problem. The other troupe of “You (raped/seduced or bedded in general) my (female related) and now I hate you even more.” So as a female reader I’m usually like: why the hell is she getting attacked? Wy not do that to one of his male relatives or sidekicks or even himself? Wouldn’t that hurt his ego too and maybe even more?

Then... there’s the dreadful “romance rape”. There’s 3 type of those. 1, the “drugged sex”, aka rape, which brings and ties the female and male mc together. 2, the “forceful and domineering sex”, also aka rape, where the domineering male mc (usually those trashy op ceos) usually asserts his possession over the female mc. 3, and lastly the “you will love me after having sex with me”, cue, also aka rape, where well, the male mc uses their god rod to forcefully make every female they rape fall for them. Those 3 are romancing and normalizing rape in relationships. And honestly? Is even more unrealistic than the violence depicting... like who the fuck would fall in love with a rapist? No matter how godly you are in bed no woman would fall for you after being coerced into it!
So yeah, those are the two main problems with rape in novels. The using a female to hurt a man’s ego and the romancing of rape in relationships.
And also, they never show the traumas those leave in the females. The fear, the disgust, the aversion of touch and other consequences to te victim and those close to them. As if those don’t happen at all, as if they are not consequences worthy enough to be written about. If you look this way even a friend of the mc getting hurt after losing a fight is given more importance. They get beaten, sent to medical care, consoled my the mc and than, avenged. When there’s rape involved... the mc don’t even usually console the victim. And why? Because being sullied and shameful is the main focus.
Those things that don’t happen with murder and torture and all is the reason why rape is a bigger problem than them in novels. But that’s in my point of view...

          • Is not something sendable... but something that usually helps me in opening Spotfy and creating a playlist with musics that make me feel happy or better in general... getting something sweet to eat (normally tea, cookies and choc) and than getting myself distracted with some comedy novels, or some repetitive games like home/garden scapes or the candies sagas... or making a new look in Love/miracle Nikki...

          • I’ll make clear again. I am against piracy. I don’t think is right nor fair. But I’m an adult who knows we don’t live on an utopia where it can be stopped. And that we don’t live in a world where people would totally disregard it’s benefits over morals.
It’s naive beyond my understanding to expect people would chose to abide when cornered to pay for something that they were having for free instead of searching for the free or knockoff version. This happens on every industry and with every brand.
Authors and translators have all the rights to be mad at it. But my blaming on this on Webnovel still stands. As a business who is well aware of all the pirates it should have known what would’ve be the consequences of such update. No one on a business would believe in such a naivety. So yeah. Be mad at all free users leaving all you want. Be even madder at the pirates that spread your work for free. But be the maddest at the company that not only did not try to keep your readers on the official channel but pushed them all to the pirate arms.
I do know piracy is awfully wrong. But if users flee the official channel en masse is because something went wrong there.

            • LostInFictions So let’s get this straight...
Webnovel limits free reading of premium novels to 22chaps a week for free readers.
Or the 3 free limited for the day. When that’s up, while it is up.
Or the original non contracted ones.

That’s the 3 options free users have. and you are telling me that it’s not Webnovel’s fault it’s free users are leaving for the pirate sites?
It’s kinda dumb to hope they will accept being ripped of to keep reading here. The whales who like to spend here will not stop doing so. Those who are mad at the limits are the free readers and I’ve read more than twice in the forums that they are feeling entitled to have something free, that the rewards they use contribute nothing to authors/translators and cia.
So, tell me. Why are you guys so scared of the people who don’t really contribute to your revenue leaving? If they choose to go pirate is because your work is not working how much Webnovel is charging for it.
Is the same as the big drop of readers original novels see when they get contracted and go premium.
If they had controlled their greed and applied this only buyable coins system to privilege and it’s chaps, people would get mad, but would not chose to leave. Those who would spend to get them would still do it, and those who don’t wouldn’t.
It was a bad move from Webnovel and it pushed it’s free users away. The pirate sites have always been there. It’s no news. And yet free users still chose Webnovel over them.

You said you’re a non contracted author who is pissed your work is being posted somewhere else without your consent. So, why don’t you give your consent? Why don’t you upload it in other platforms yourself? Is it not because you hope your work will one day be contracted and monetized? Because if you did so and got contracted you would eventually lose all readers on other places when you took it down? Elaborate more on how and why you are only posting your novel on Webnovel and how much not about money it is.
Readers and authors have different views on this. You as an author is a prospect employee. We as readers are prospect customers.

              • Well... yeah it must feel pretty bad for authors and translators under contract to see this happening. And obviously readers would not care as much as them, even more so with the way webnovel is limiting free users.
Honestly there’s many points and views about this regarding webnovel in particular and piracy in general. As I said in other post before not even giants like Sony or Disney can monopolize it’s intelectual property... even more so when you talk about digital content. So I doubt webnovel would truly be able to do something about it. It’s not like it didn’t try before... and failed too.
I am not in favor of piracy. And will use official channels in all opportunities I have. That’s why when webnovel went after it’s novels that were being translated to English for free and decided to launch it’s “international version” I came here. And that’s why I stayed for 2yrs.
But you know? There is the other side too. The side of why are people going to those sites instead of using webnovel. Why people that came here for a official channel are leaving. That’s a complaint to be made to webnovel.
Also... well... let’s just say webnovel is not as clean as you think in regards of stealing works... and before I get judged as feeling entitled to wanting to read for free... know that at the beginning 90% of webnovel works were available for free, with few being “premium”. Just how at first all original works were free.
There’s also the point of how ridiculously expensive reading a novel here is compared with other forms of entertainment as books, ebooks, movies and series. Even more so considering readers only buy the right to access and not the novel per se. If service providers like Netflix and Spotfy charged like webnovel a lot of clients would flee to piracy from them too.
It’s 2 sides of a same coin. Just as authors and translators deserve to be paid, readers also deserve to be charged reasonably. The one responsible to find the balance between them is Webnovel.

                • Hm... there’s few originals I didn’t give up early... main reasons:

1- Too poor of a grammar... I mean... those google tr copy paste ones with bad phrasing you know? At some point it gets unbearable.

2- Those who you just know are a teenagers dream. The author may not be a teen anyone, but they overprojects themself and their old and new fantasy into it... usually resulting in Mary/Jack Sues with too much plot armor.

3- Hiatus... cuz I end up giving up on the wait...

4- The author. Writing notes on the novel. Writing 2 or more novels at the same time or starting a new one. Promoting the other novels on a novel. Sorry, this just screams I’ll end up dropping this one or going into a loooooong hiatus. A sure drop for me.

5- This one... is the worst novel-wise... Badly written bed scenes. M/J Sue harem? Super fine. But if you can feel the author is a virgin or a dead fish using 4th, not even 3rd, rate AV and his way too wild fantasies as reference, usually with all women squealing like pigs and turning the bed into a lake by squirting... or the guy having a holy rod making women fall like flies with it... it gets too funny/disturbing and messes up even a real good plot... I’ll insert any kind of inces here since is not my thing.

And well... the saddest is going premium... because they are good, and it’s good to the author... but if I went for a original is because it was free... and when they go premium I usually can’t afford it...

                • everydayismonday nah I also don’t read from the sites that are copying... I rather go look for the unlicensed ones and support those authors and translators... xD
I used to be stuck up about reading from those sites... I still think is wrong, but if they limit the free users like that I can’t judge them... even more if I’m told free users are not supporting since they aren’t buying...
After I’ve read that I was like: so why are you complaining about them leaving? XD
                  I’m not caring anymore... xD
                  Happy holidays 😊

                  • TheCaffinated don’t worry... we won’t judge you... thanks for feeding authors and translators... xD
But well used to webnovel’s ripoffs... not that I buy them tho... xD
                    Happy holidays 😘

                  • I don’t even know if this post is a serious argumentative one or not after reading everything... or almost... xD
All in all, readers and writers/translators will have different opinions of it...
I get being mad if your work is being posted somewhere else for free... but... just let the free users go if they want to... they don’t contribute for it anyway right? Don’t worry, there’s always a couple whales around to compensate...
And well... dissing in the forum is dissing... why go read it just to feel upset? XD
                    Happy holidays 😘

                    • Kuroganez can I like it twice? XD
I feel many people don’t even know those things cuz most of the oldies have given up on webnovel already...
there was the mass leave when premium went mainstream, another smaller with the subscription system, one with the privilege and now another massive one...
not only they took them rather forcibly there was also the kicking of independent translators off the platform at the beginning of the year... so many novels dropped and suddenly on hiatus... and not a peep about it from Webnovel.
The few readers that got to know it are the ones who were in contact with those translators on discord. Smh... and the newer users still don’t understand why we don’t believe webnovel is doing it because it cares about translators and authors...

                    • Tomoyuki oh, sorry my bad, I meant translators and the non contracted authors. I’m not an author. I have no clue how much they pay you. But yes I can sympathize with how bad you and translators must feel about it. I don’t deny that. Again, that’s why I came to webnovel and why I stayed for almost 2 years.
But honestly, im a consumer, not an employee. If as employees you are being underpaid that’s between you guys. We know nothing about original authors and translators. We don’t know how you’re paid, your ages, if this is a full time job, a second font of revenue or anytime else.
We, as customers know when we are being overcharged.
My view on this is the same as @Hatake_Shirou Here Hatake_Shirou and here Hatake_Shirou.
McDonalds underpays it’s employees and overcharge it’s customers and I also don’t go there. You have your opinion as an employee. I have mine as a user, customer, consumer or what you may call it.
If you need a comparison that much I'd rather compare it with Spotfy. Except it would charge you 5cents per a 3min song or more if it was longer. And only allowed you to listen to the last album of artists if you payed more for it, besides the music price. Also reducing free users experiences to 100 songs per month. Demos of artists not signed under a record would be free. Until they got popular enough to be signed. They would algo chose 3 random artists per day to have their music free for that day.
That’s an approximate comparison. Some people would still use it. But I assure you a lot would jump ship.
Also. You are a contracted author. If you were not you wouldn’t complain. I bet you would even post your work in other places too so more people would read it. But again, you’re already an employee.
You must be really mad there’s people reading your novel for free huh? How about you go complain to Webnovel people? Go on. Let’s see if they will do you justice and get your novel down wherever it’s being published. Then I’ll believe they care about authors.
Also, I made myself clear in many posts on the forum. I will still use webnovel as far as I'm able for it is an official channel. Then I’ll do other things instead of reading it’s novels. Probably some unlicensed ones... some crunchroll, Netflix and other official channels that don’t overprice. The only source I even mentioned on the forum is GravityTales for its fierce fight with Qidian and for being where I got to know about it. I’ll repeat. I won’t condemn those who go pirate as I did in the past. Not out of disregard for authors and translators, but because over the 2 yrs I’ve been here I’ve seen Webnovel’s disregard for users. Yes, I disagree with it’s greed for limiting so much it’s free users. And for that I understand their desire for pirate sites as much as I get you wanting to be paid.
My advice for google was not an incentive but a way to prevent those kind of links to be posted here and the waste of time mailing links for each other.
Webnovel never had a true monopoly over it’s content. And yet many people chose to use it for being an official channel. You should be madder at it for pushing users away than at users for leaving.

                    • everydayismonday You’re new here huh pal?
                      Read. It. Again:

Nizze It’s kinda funny and ironic that many of it’s translators and translated works initially came from those same sources... I still remember the fight over TKA and others... xD

Meaning: The Kings Avatar (TKA) as many other novels (the oldest and more popular) were already being translated FOR FREE in other sites BEFORE Qidian, now Webnovel decided to launch an english version. There was fighting, poaching, lawyers and a lot of confusion at that time. When they came back to Webnovel (to what I agreed was what was right and still do) they were free. Not use free SS to unlock it but free to read. The right name for locked novels is PREMIUM and it was not the mainstream it is today.

Yes, many of those sites source them from here. But there’s also many novels not licensed by Qidian being translated for free out there. If the translators that work for Webnovel (I bet you also don’t know all translators that refused to sign contracts with them were kicked out) decided to drop the novels (what they also cannot do since they signed it) the novels would yes go on hiatus. Until someone decided to translate it for free again out of a wish to share a novel they like with others. As it was before Webnovel.

Also. Webnovel overprices its services. Just compare the prices of books and films... even service providers like Spotify and Netflix don’t dare to overcharge like this.
And about monopoly. Nice utopia you live on. Nothing in internet is a true monopoly. Disney doesn’t have it, Sony doesn't, Japanese mangá industry doesn’t. And you’re thinking lil cute Webnovel will beat all big fish in the world and monopolize it’s intelectual content?
I’m against piracy, but am even more against being taken as stupid and agreeing to be overcharged for a service. And the reason those big fishes don’t overprice their services and products is because if they do people stop using the “official channel” to get them.

I’ll be nice and give you an example: SPOTFY. Its a nice official channel. And it’s monthly fee is not high right? But what do you think if they charged per music? 5 cents lets say. I for sure know I listen more than 500 songs per month. Which would be more than 25$ per month. But that’s the standard 3 min music, if they charged more or less per song time... that price would go up. Now let’s talk about it’s free service. What if they limited it to 25 songs per week? 100 per month. A far cry from the 500 right?
Do you know what would happen? People would look for other providers. Or even, just go back using sites to extract the mp3 audio file from their mv’s on YouTube. And theres way to many of those sites out there to be taken down.
And that’s pal, is how the menace of piracy controls how products and services are not overpriced. Get it now?
There’s a bottom line that they don’t cross to not loose customers, users or what you may call it. A fine line that Webnovel has been insistent on crossing. They’ve been pushing users limits for a whole year and now crossed the line. And that’s why users are giving up on it and going pirate.
