N0xiety Just say that it was a rumor. It was taken down for a reason. However, you get the reason. There is a dispute. The author is not wrong, writing is their sole income, WN is also bad with communication and what you said pricing. Perhaps there is something in the contract that prevent both parties to discuss this.
As a reader, you could influence with your click 'traffic' and pocket.

Yea I’ve noticed that as well. Anyone else notice that novels that have ads instead of premium have put ads back onto older chapters, like for gourmet food supplier and some other ones. Chapters that I’ve read before and have either watched an ad or paid 4 ss for are locked again until I watch the ad or pay 4SS. What is that about?! Now I can’t download the novel to read on a plane unless I’m willing to sit thru 300 ads or use 1000+SS, mostly on chapters I’ve already read. What’s next? Paying for a premium chapter only lets you read it for a week before they lock it again?

Lyle_Walt I’m not talking about adwall on new chapters. That’s perfectly fine. I’m talking about them re adwalling old chapters I’ve already unlocked by watching ads or paying 4SS. Like 300 chapters of gourmet food supplier’s old chapters got ads again.
Maximilian just calculated how many SS it would take to finish advent of the archmage. Starting from chapter 267 to the end is about 502 chapters of premiums. On average they are 10-12 SS a chapter. So 5020SS to 6024SS which translates to close to 150AUD or 110USD. I picked this book cause I might start using SS to read it.

Lyle_Walt Ads revenue couldn't compare to a paid SS. Try to find the rate of ads. For example, just a simple Google Search showed you get $2 per 1.000 views (Youtube ads value. Hank Green medium.com, Google is one of the company with better target ads. Some said $5~8/1.000 view.). Each view was $0.002. Some factor also involved about the rate.
Just to pay $4 cost for a chapter (if Webnovel just purchase old chapter) = 2.000 readers.
If it is a new translated chapter. You should check the cost for translating a chapter. +- 1.000-2.500 chinese words.
Based on Fiverr: $5 for 250 words. (Translator here received less). That would be $20 to $50 per chapter (I don't know how much translator here received, perhaps $10/15? since each novel had many chapters and different words count.).
If it was $20/chapter at $0.002/view. They need 100.000 readers watching ads to pay translation cost of a chapter. They had to pay staffs, developers, maintenance, and the Author. Ads would never be enough if they had to produce the product.
If it was just hosting, ads would be more than enough. Google and Facebook could live with ads since they had a 'big' amount of users.
