So I have been writing a RTW fanfiction and I like to check the statistics to see how popular my story is becoming. However, I have been noticing something strange.
The website is telling me that my story is in 342 collections but a day ago it was only in the low 200s. Furthermore, the graph of the number of collections is telling me that it is 105. The numbers don't seem to be adding up.
Also, I am apparently getting several thousand views a day, but nobody is commenting.
Do the statistics actually work???
Are the statistics actually real?
Same here
For stats, I usaully go with the # and ignore the graph cuz it's confusing. Also, a lot of people put novels in their library for later (esp. if there are few chaps). So give it some time.. First week or two is usaully brutal. If all else fails, write a more exciting synopsis?, lol

I agree, the amount of lurkers is astounding many people just glance at a novel by pressing the read button on accident more than genuinely read the novel. Even if they do actually read the novel even less will comment on it.
Goyumasta It has actually been an ongoing problem that the collections and graph doesn't match. The rabbink here will also tell you.
I don't know much about the decrease but I read some authors also asking about it before in the author's discord. No answer yet, I think (so it might not be a bug?). Though, my problem was actually the frequent increase these days in collections of the novel I already completed around two months ago but with only 14 chapters.
And if you look at some power stone voters, they don't really comment so that could also be the case for comments. Based on observation, most novels get around a thousand viewers per chapter you added so I usually depend on collections. And I don't think an official explanation of how the views work was given.
DazzlingGem View work with a number of Chapters. So a 100 chp novel and 15 novels view would be different.
Even Wattpad also manipulate view.
For collection, I think the graph is more correct. It has detail of distribution.
Nevertheless, believe the higher one. It is more motivating.
Knowing QI itβs probably just random numbers.

The graph is definitely incorrect for me. From what I read the third party behind it isn't very reliable.
My graph has been a flatline for weeks and several people have told me they added it to their library during that time (some of them did it in front of my eyes) and the collections number went up by the correct amount seconds after they added. Yet, there has been no change in the graph.
Also, viewing the synopsis page may count as a view even if they don't click read.
MasterRabbink Yup, that's the usual assumption with views but an editor here said that it's only one view if a reader read the 100 chap novel in one go, same with the 15 chap novel. That's what I mean.
NitrogenousBeing I have a novel that had a 'stale' graph at 40ish and collection at a stable 0.
I even add the novel into my 'reading' accounts. Still 0.
So, yeah! Both are unrealiable. Just pick the bigger number is my suggestion!
MasterRabbink I agree, both of them still show a vast different amount of 'collection'. Even now I'm not sure which one of them is the right one
The higher one is definitely more motivating compare with the lesser one, hopefully that was the correct one :D
Are we actually alive?

I have some evidence the graph is completely inaccurate. My novel Steampunk Apocalypse! has 788 collections for the number. The graph has 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 6, 6, 6, 6. A grand total of 34 for the period of Sep 04 - Sep 14. That's the full data since my novel is only that old anyways. I feel the difference is far too drastic for the graph to be accurate. I also doubt my novel only has 34 collections when winning a writing contest and being on the front page lol.
Same here. It says 826 collections at the front but at the graph, the numbers go 2,3,3,5,5,14,31,40,51. That doesn't add up
