Writing Prompts Contest #16：Kingdom Building

There’s almost as many Kingdom Building genre stories as System based stories on webnovel. Although some authors will complain that there’s too many Kingdom Building stories, we still think that this genre lacks a sufficient number of top-notch novels.

That’s why the excellent stories for this writing prompt will have additional chances to be featured on the front page. And, these chances won’t be limited to only the #1 ranked winner.

Everyone should be quite familiar already with what the Kingdom Building genre is about. That’s why I shall simply mention three different types of Kingdom Building novels that will be the main focus for this writing prompt.

1) Transmigration to historical times / Reincarnation novel

Typically speaking, this type of story will typically have the main character transmigrating to a certain time period in history (most commonly medieval times) together with all of his or her memories. The main character will lead a new life in this different time period. This type of novel has plenty of potential. Just try imagining it. What will a modern day chemist do if he returns to medieval times and inherits a small domain? And what can he do if his domain is facing the threat of war? He knows countless chemistry formulas, he might know how to create gunpowder and explosives, or how to forge sharp weapons (this is modern day knowledge that’s easy enough for any of us to find out using Google). This can help him to obtain his father and domain citizens’ trust and win the battle in the war. In fact, your main character could even be a modern day cook, who uses his cooking skills as well as knowledge of hygiene to his advantage in a medieval age.

Here’s an example from real European history. Some people believed that bathing was harmful to the body. That’s why many people wouldn’t take baths for months at a time. But actually, we know that not bathing will actually greatly increase the risk of them catching an illness. If plagues and other infectious diseases are common in this generation, how about the main character forces through a hygiene law to help decrease the risk of his citizens becoming ill? In fact, we also know the power of antibiotics such as penicillin. What if something such as penicillin appears in the medieval times and helps the citizens and warriors to stop dying to infectious diseases? It’ll seem like a heaven-sent miracle that will save countless lives. The main character will be endlessly praised for creating such a miracle.

2) Fantasy stories

You could also write about the fantasy genre, such as dragons, magic, and other mysterious powers. Of course, the main character will need to create their own domain. He or she can use intelligence and planning to defeat their enemies, or simply win using magic or military might.

Kingdom's Bloodline and Release That Witch are excellent examples of this genre that we can reference.

3) Dungeon type

You’re also more than welcome to write a Japanese style dungeon building novel where the main character could be a demon king or a demon king’s successor. Or, the main character could even be the dungeon itself. This is also an interesting genre to explore.

                        WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL I'm interested in writing for the kingdom building contest but I'm worried about the rule requiring that I possess the copywrite. As a U.S. citizen I'm fairly sure I'm at least somewhat protected simply by posting my work in a readable format but I'm not sure. Do I need to register my work with the U.S. copywrite office and can I even. I've spent about 30 minutes on search engines trying to figure out if I can get a copywrite for a webnovel which is essentially a work in progress. I don't even know for certain whether I should attempt to register my work as a serial of some type or as a book. Any answers would be much appreciated.

                                JamondAroth That's not how copyright works, my friend. Intellectual copyright is asserted the moment a work is created, without needing to be filed with the government. If it can be proved that someone owns intellectual copyright on a work (aka they can prove they wrote it), they can pursue copyright infringement in court. So all they're saying is you have to write your story entirely on your own, and not use copyrighted material from other authors.

                                          It sounds like an interesting world. Just note that World Building and Kingdom Building are two different concepts. World Building simply describes how an author constructs their setting. All novels have World Building.

                                          Kingdom Building on the other hand means that the MC is literally developing some kind of state usually with a fixed geographic territory or setting; such as a city, country, nation, dungeon, colony, fleet of space ships etc.

                                              I'm currently working on a take on typical VRMMOs set in America, not sure where it's going yet but it's going. First chapter will likely be up tonight, for those interested. (Tonight in Central Standard, GMT -6)

                                                            The plot is very good and beautiful, the second prince becomes emperor, after facing his brothers, killing some, exiling others and allied with the rest, the old emperor dies and the suffering imperial concubine, ML's mother, becomes the empress widow ... blabla.

                                                            The emperor makes an engagement with the FL, which is already so strong, that it begins to release pheromones and attract other men, the support MLs, who are handsome, rich and influential men.

                                                            Then begins the second part of the plot, which is the new Emperor running after the FL, than she refuses to have a marriage with a man who will have a harem, then flees all the time and meets with the various ML support .

                                                            But the emperor does not punish her only more and loves her as if she were a precious jewel, in the end the two marry and the emperor bans the law over an imperial harem.

                                                            What a beautiful ending! What an interesting ending!

                                                            Just forgetting a little detail .... The second prince had a bride, who was imposed by an imperial decree by his father, who belongs to a retired military family, whose patriarch is the emperor's best friend.

                                                            So what happened to this bride? Of course she was the villain of the plot!

                                                            How would FL be the prettiest and the best, if not the villain scum to compare ?! How would ML prove his love for FL if there was no villain to punish ?!

                                                            Then as she no longer had to conquer her future husband, which she was forced to marry, soon she began to focus on FL, thus becoming the most hated villain of the entire novel!

                                                            In the end she had a horrible death! She was thrown into the midst of hungry men, she was raped and then used for dinner!

                                                            The name of this tragic villain is Ling Mei, formerly of the Ling military family.

                                                            Now Chun Xiaoli is this poor, foolish villain!

                                                            "Fuck, I your grandmother, don’t need of an man for to live a good life!” Chun Xiaoli said with resolute eyes.

                                                            This is a novel in which villains will reign supreme!

                                                              It's a pretty much a popularity contest. If you want to win, you need to have a group of readers who will vote for your story. Personally, I write for enjoyment and to challenge myself.

However, I will miss it if I am not interested in checking a long summary. I want to close and just read on the halfway reading instead...

The punch is really great and make me wanted to check, but... that Synopsis will make some people afraid. I don't know it is possible to remove the 'novel content' and make a shorter description? That hide the great punch line.
