Man I used to love IRAS. It was my favorite for a long time. The racist parts were annoying though. The sex/woman scenes were even worse. Dragged on and on. Didn't it get dropped or banned by China or something recently?

Well, I've put some decent effort into breaking away from the beaten trail despite using something akin to a reincarnation lever.

If you have some free time, please give my story a try:

If you've got some spare time, please take a look at mine:

I'm also very interested in the optional points of your review since I'm constantly wondering about changing the title/cover/synopsis to reflect the content better.

Just keep in mind that the pacing is rather slow since I like a more detailed approach instead of rushing forward like a mad bull with every idea that comes to my mind.

The blunt apex guy kinda has a point.

You are right, most novels on this site are trash. There are a few good ones.

8374fg48fh You are not a stupid weeb, you are an insightful weeb ;-) I think you do have a point. As one of the writers one this site, I'm happy that you direct your critique at the site and the stories, and not at the authors. Because I think many of the authors here can actually write better stories. They just lack the incentive to do so.

I don't think OP is truly against entire genres like reincarnation or transmigration, because both of these can be done well. I think OP is tired of predictable plot points, bland characters, lifeless settings, repetitions, fillers etc. It's just that genres such as the ones mentioned above, lend easily to all of those traits.

The problem, I think, has several parts.

Let me first formulate four basic laws. They are not absolute, but they are good generalizations:
...1. Originality and quality writing = slow chapter releases
...2. Generic copy paste stories with low quality writing = fast chapter releases
...3. To be read, stories need to be discovered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...4. When you incentivize something, the opposite is always disincentivized.

This is how Webnovel works (grossly simplified but true of essence):
            A. Readers regulate popularity! -- but the third law still holds true! So Webnovel also indirectly regulates popularity.

            B. Stories are discovered mainly based on their:
......Popularity (different indicators such as views, rating, power ranking)
......Featuredness (No, that word does not exist. But you get the point, right?)
            ......Stories with daily chapter releases
            ......Newly released chapters

            C. Remember the fourth law? Publicity is a scarce resource. A large chunk is given out to the points mentioned in (B ). In other words, the reciprocal holds true, that it becomes hard to discover stories that are not already popular, not featured, that do not release daily chapters, and that have not just released a chapter (the last one is very important for new authors).

The micro problem: Let's try to simulate different cases:
It follows from A-C that the only realistic way a new author's story can be discovered using only the mechanics provided by Webnovel, is by appearing in the list of newly released chapters and preferably also the list of stories with daily released chapters. (There are other ways, such as the forums, social media etc., but they won't make a difference for most authors.)

If the author releases a high quality original chapter each week, he or she will only have about 1/7 the publicity of generic copy paste stories, and 1/14 or 1/21 the publicity of copy paste stories that even copy paste their own content ad infinitum and/or make bite-sized chapters to release several chapters each day XD

The macro problem - What happens to the site at scale?:
The short answer, basic psychology is what happens, because we are dealing with people writing stories, and people reading stories (and some bots, of course, but ignore those for the sake of simplicity)

The site starts attracting people who enjoy generic stories (because that's the only stories they discover), and detracts people looking for truly original stories (even if the site has them, they are hard to find).

Authors trying to write a truly original story won't be able to find a readership on the site, because they will have to compete for publicity with easy to write generic rapid release stories, for an audience that doesn't appreciate originality, on a site with no mechanics by which to reward it. What then would incentivize an author to write such a story?

Less quality stories are published on Webnovel because of the above problems, setting in motion a negative spiral of genericness (yes, that is actually a word!)

            The business perspective:
ALL OF THIS IS NOT NECESARRILY BAD IN A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE. It just requires enough readers interested in generic works, and who appreciate rapid releases more than originality and quality. And by god, there are many of them! Even if Webnovel continues down this path, they will still be of service to this particular readership.

There is no TLDR. The above is already the short version.

this is really well thought and set out reply. 5/5. And I do wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of the OP.

I would like to add there are a few writers who come here looking for exposure as this site is much bigger and more accessible than others. These are the exception and not the norm, but that is why I am here.

Contracted authors are rewarded for posting daily, but if their quality drops so will their income, I have seen evidence of this already. Other authors are under no obligation to post daily and if they do its probably for the reasons you set out.

I think it's important not to harass people having a go, but at the same time, if you're a reader you don't have to read trash.

              Anyway, that's my two cents.

              8374fg48fh
This is a site that caters to a particular audience and therefore certain story and character archetypes will predominate. You won't enjoy it if you only prefer other stories, which you seem to do. You even ask for a NORMAL FANTASY STORY WITHOUT REINCARNATION. Yet you fail to realize that there is no such thing as universal NORMAL. There is only cultural normal.

For an Asian Fantasy audience, reincarnation stories are just as NORMAL as a bunch of humans, elves and dwarves going on adventures would be for a Western Fantasy audience. As for OP protagonists, they're literally everywhere in Asian stories (Xianxia, Wuxia, Manga, Anime etc.) because that's what that particular market wants. These sorts of protagonists occur in Western stories as well but are usually less obvious. Often those characters suddenly have illogical limits via PIS (Plot induced stupidity), or are saved by Deus ex machina.

Now whether or not you'll be able to find a good story here is something I can't answer for you. You'll probably end up like one of those people who looks for a romantic comedy in the action section of Netflix or Foxtel. It's possible but could get a bit frustrating.

LawCol Everyone know what he meant with "normal fantasy". And taking under consideration that WN is English language website ,that is rather not advertised towards Chines audience, he referring to (presumably) European Fantasy was correct(according to your definition of what should be consider normal where)

LawCol Yeah, our internet companies are shit in comparison to the EU. Telstra? Optus? More like Lagstra and Optimus Shit.

No where did I write that this site was for a Chinese Audience. Instead I wrote Asian Fantasy audience. Which includes all people who read Asian Fantasy novels. Or did you believe that only Chinese people read Asian Fantasy?

Now, since this site is for readers who enjoy Asian Fantasy, then saying that Western Fantasy ideals are normal on this site, is incorrect. The language of a site does determine its cultural aesthetic. Coming here and expecting a prevalence of Western stories is like going to an Anime site and complaining that there's not enough Walt Disney and Loony Tunes content.
