Ok not trying to spoil anything but as of late i have noticed that there has been a so called paywall appeaing on this webnovel site. You will not notice this on any other site as it only seems to exist here. Previously it was mentioned during the update where the premium programme was released. It specially said that it was only applied to extra releases, an example is that if a book had a release rate of 7 chapters a week, if the translator released a 8 or 9th chapter it would be a premium chapter and not clash with the regular releases.

But fast forward several months now, we can now see paywall where regular chapters have become premium chapters and pre-existing chapters suddenly being turned to pay to read chapters. Honestly this issue has been starting to bug me as i do not wish to see this site which many readers use to read their favourite novels suddenly become from a well reputed site to an infamous one due to more and more translators making their works pay to read. Hence resulting in the site turning from what it was supposed to be, a site for many readers to read stress free, into a site where we pay to read.

I honestly do not wish to see this happen and yes i still think that the premium chapter release is a good idea except that now its being abused. I do not know if anything has changed then and now but still, i hope that the developers see this and hopefully fix it. To the readers, i hope that after seeing this, you will share this to other readers and hopefully fix this issue.

Qidian already has a huge bad rep, its already infamous for backstabbing,stealing etc. Are you guys seriously only seeing this now? I thought that everyone already knew that there was gonna be a permanent paywall on all thier novels

Original novels are growing so fast, so translators might be feeling threatened and trying to make as much as they could before translated content becomes irrelevant.
Let's be honest most of the Chinese novels are cut paste of each other and contain no substance. And some new original novels here are really great and written by awesome authors who know how to write.

Idk originals don’t seem that big yet, I’ve seen a lot of em dropped and they’re really good too. But I do kinda hope that’s the case.

the only novels that go premium are those where the authors decide to sign the contract...

From what I can gather in quite a few cases it isn't author but webnovel/Qidian that makes novels premium. Once a novel gets a certain amount of votes they add adverts and once it gets more votes it goes premium. So if you like a novel and don't want adverts/premium then don't vote for it.

As an aside due to premium it means no one should ever start reading a new series on webnovel. Any series can go premium overnight and if you are a few 100 chapters behind that will cost you 1000s of spirit stones.

No series is ever going to be removed from premium as it's webnovel/Qidian's business model. Basic concept is that in making more novels premium it means people run out of SS thus encouraging to buy them. Free SS and chapters is aimed to get readers to put enough of an emotional investment into a novel that they then feel the need to make a financial one to keep reading. In cold financial terms it's better for webnovel/Qidian for 1 person to read it and pay $1 than for 100 people to read it paying $0

Gothic_Temptation I'm sure there were some people who thought Qidian might keep their word. Personally, I'm waiting for when they start removing the free spirit stones for voting and daily check-in. It will be... interesting, to see what happens at that point.

I was wondering about this, yesterday i was reading "Lord xue Ying" and today when i go back to continue reading the chapter 497, it's all in "pay 10/11 gems" to have the right to continue your reading.

I mean.. even chapter i have already read 463+ have passed in pay per read.

As much as i like reading this and i could understand a 4 gems per chapter.. 10/11 is completely excessive in my eyes.

I will simply stop reading it as i am already using my gems for reading other stuff and can't pay $400 a month to read on your site.

Just give up on reading here. Move somewhere else. Easiest solution

They arnt growing that fast, it just that the sheer number of them out weighs the TL,theres to much trash that you have to dig through to get to the good ones. The whole original thing is a bad move by qidian cuase they a TL site. What they should be focusing on is the TL but instead becuase of their greed their splitting their attention on to many things at once. They haven't even fixed their site properly and just mixed the originals with the TL, like 70 % of the people came to this site to read TL not original. Its only a matter of time before TL get paid less and less which would then move to authors with contacts

it's not just that, qidian was uploading free chapter with premium chapter but suddenly at 15/8 all the premium novels has stopped uploading free chapters and i do not know ? will that continue or will begin to upload free chapters again

It's pretty unfortunate, one book I was going to read 230 of the 331 chapters are SS/"Bonus" chapters. Just under 70% of the chapters are walled, no update in 10 days despite a TL schedule of 10 chapters a week.
