What would be the best English Trans?

    Define best xD I've a feeling that my definition of best isn't the same as yours.

    I think the 'best' translator is the one who could translate the thoughts and ideas of the original correctly (i.e. not just literal translation) to the intended audience, while keeping the flow of the story intact. Of course, mastery of English grammar is needed too for good self editing. They'd be self sufficient and motivated to carry on translation work because they love the story, and wanted to share the story to the world, without the mess of advertisements, Patreon, and contracts like the good ol' days (like A Step to the Past). Speed would be nice too, but since we're talking about best, I would like the rate to be about 2 chapters a day, minimum.

    So, how different was my definition of best compared to yours?

    And are we talking about the raw translations (not the edited versions)?

      Deathblade. I don't think any translator is in the same league as him when it comes to Chinese webnovels. I shall Seal the Heavens and A Will Eternal are both translated by him. I'm sure it helps that the author of those novels is Er Gen and they're amazing even before translating. But Deathblade goes the extra mile to get as accurate as a translation as possible while still making it understandable to English audiences. He even works directly with the Chinese author sometimes when confusion crops up.

      Maybe RWX comes in 2nd for the translation of Coiling Dragon. There may be a few others that reach this level too. There's a reason Coiling Dragon is usually recommended 1st to beginners. It's very westernized, the translation is awesome, and even the names are easily remembered since they're also western.

      After that, I'm not actually aware of any translations that particularly stand out to be as a cut above the rest. It is all too common for translation quality to slip on some novels, be lacking on others, etc. We can probably divide all other novels into four categories. Machine translated/trash, acceptable, good, and great. Unfortunately, I'd say the first two categories are more common than the latter two, but there are still plenty of other good translations out there even if they don't measure up to Deathblade. It's also important to remember that some novel issues aren't the translators fault and go back to the original author's flawed writing. However, we as the reader likely won't know that unless the translator tells us.

            Nou I'm sorry I replied late, I was too busy with University or I rather say related to school stuffs esp. Thesis. Yep, I know we have different definition of "best", ofc people are born diff and we're not the same, haha. I'm axtually referring to a tool, if the translator has a bad translation, nope not bad another term for that I'll edit it myself.

                      Google translate might already be the best..
                      Most or rather all translation tools translate word by word as well. Perhaps in the future when a system with artificial intelligence is invented, would there be such great translation..

                      But still, if there's a tool that could translate accurately, translators might lose their jobs lol.
