Hello guys and what's up. First of all I hope to use this post to give webnovel some ideas on how they can make the site better for all us readers, this is absolutely not to bash or to do any hating on any translators or webnovel team, for this reason if you decide to leave a comment instead of just saying what you don't like try to leave a suggestion on how they could make it better or improve. Second I hope anyone reading this can take it with a grain of salt and look at it through their own experiences and judge for themselves whether what I said happened to them or if it's just my own personal experiences being clouded by my own thoughts.

So for the first issue I'm going to start with the spirit Stone issue, I won't lie that I was't happy to pay for what was previously free, kind of sucked but I get it translators are real people who do this as a job and books cost money in the first place too so I've never had a real big problem with it. But at this point since it's not for free anymore and we are paying money for a service, it needs to be to a certain standard and quality this is the basis of any business. At this point i haven't had any huge issues with the books I'm reading that were worth complaining about, so far there have been a couple minor problems that have bugged me considering that I am paying money for this. So to this point I hope that webnovel can either introduce a system where if the chapters are rated too poorly a certain number of times, or you could add a separate page for each translator kind of like a book information page where people can leave reviews and rate the translator, if the translator gets too many bad ratings on the chapters or in the review page you can put them on some kind of probation with some kind of penalties that you come up with, because at this point you are running a business and customer satisfaction is extremely important especially when most of your customers are return customers.

the second thing I want to talk about which is not a big issue at all, it is the fanfiction original novels that you started posting on the site, first I love the fanfictions I read them on Royalroadl and this site all the time, but there's just too many of them I hope you can add some kind of filter in the genre section, to filter them out so I can look for new books that aren't FanFictions cuz I'm finding it pretty hard at this point.

And pretty much the last thing I wanted to talk about are some problems with the translators, and this is the thing I hope everyone looks at from their own perspective without blindly trusting what I say. The first problem one translator taking on too many projects, some of them are just stretching themselves too thin and the quality of their translations are just going so far down for quantity while we're still having to pay, it's just unreasonable. So I strongly suggest that you limit the amount of books one person can translate at a time, and while i make this suggestion I know that there are different types of people in the world, just like one person can do more work than another person in the same amount of time, one translator could be doing a fantastic job translating five books while one other person is doing terrible doing two books, and maybe this could be part of the probation I talked about earlier where they got too many bad reviews I don't know this is only suggestions I'm not trying to force you to do anything, I just hope to give some ideas the site that I love so much.

and this is the very last thing that ties into both the translators and the Spirit Stones, at this point webnovel is a fully functioning business, and this suggestion comes from someone who is a business owner and manager, while pleasing the customer is extremely important, keeping your employees happy is just as important. So to bring it all together the thing I'm talking about here is the excessive number of locked chapters. Well you definitely need to keep the translators happy, but having too many lock chapters not only makes a lot of readers unhappy it also cuts down on your future possibility readers which will be your new customers, cutting your future income ultimately Wich is bad for long term development, at the same time the translators your employees lose motivation by seeing that they have work piled up in advance. So my suggestion here is either release one locked chapter for every two chapters published that way even after the book is Finished people still have to unlock the second half, which will have drawn people in at that point giving you your new customers, and your translators will make money no matter what. An alternate suggestion would be to have one chapter unlocked per day this would keep people coming to the site while also keeping the translators motivated to stay ahead. while this may seem like it's losing money by unlocking chapters for free, in reality it's keeping fresh blood coming in and keeping your current customers happy will create a virtuous cycle that will definitely leave both sides happy in the long run.

well that's all I had to say, if you're a reader out there and you thought I had some good points, or you have some points of your own that could help leave a comment, to webnovel if you liked any of my ideas feel free to use them definitely, or you thought some of them were completely impractical tell me why in the comments, like I said I'm a business owner and a manager and if you have any questions or you want to bounce some ideas off me in the future I love this site and I would absolutely love to help in any way I can

I feel kind of lame being the first to comment on my own post but I just want to say I don't get on the forms very often because come to the site to read and unless it crosses my mind I usually don't come so if I don't respond to another comment it's not because I'm ignoring you it's because I haven't seen it

Dao_of_books Good points. I would just add that the translators' grammar wouldn't matter if they have an editor working with them. If there are still errors in published chapters (many of which readers have to pay for to read, like you pointed out), it's actually the editor's fault -- correcting those was his/her job, the translator only needed to translate, and if the translator also has editing skills, that should be considered a bonus, not something to be expected or be taken for granted.

Dao_of_books I'm not contradicting you, by the way haha. Just wanted to make a point that perhaps you were not aware of.

Oh, sorry, I forgot the fact that some translators' abilities are also lacking (if they're not actually machines), and for an editor, cleaning up after them is a massive headache.

In the end, it all boils down to your point. Quality control would be nice for paid chapters/books

Even though loads of people mention this subject all the time I feel I need to add my thoughts in as well, the ss situation I think it's gone a bit over board now I don't know if anyone has actually done any math on it apart from me (was bored please don't judge)

As an example if a novel blocks from chapter 100 onwards and they have 1200 chapters or more in the novel and each chapter is 10 ss the cost to read all the chapters is absurd, ruffly £160 that's a low estimate.

My point I think chapters should be at most 3-4 ss otherwise the cost is too much for the average person

          Rant over, sorry lol ,

            Kni8ht
Nah you're not the only one. I've bought ss once, realised i've scammed myself, and never bought again since..

In fact, i'm no longer even taking my free ss (not watching the ads at least). Realized i would need years to finish any of the novels, so not even trying anymore.

So yes, i would be a paying customer but the price drove me where i am today..

6 months later they will either fix it or just close down. That's what i think...

              Nassun

There are so many people who do the same, they realise upon buying ss and reading novels just what they will have to pay to finish the novel or how long it would take with free ss they can gain from the app,, the really annoying thing is it could all be fixed if the people who run this app made every novel fixed at 3 to 4 ss per chapter ruffley paying £60 to £70 per novel which is the same as new game on Xbox and playstation. They could even do a thing where you pay £50 in one go and all following chapters in that novel are free, I think that would fix a lot of issues people have with this app.

                Kni8ht
Imho even 70 per novel sounds rather expensive.. i can buy 2 printed books for that same money. And these guys don't have to print anything, just seems a bit odd that i would have to pay more for online read than i would for printed book.

But yes, you're right, at least that would be worth considering..

                  Nassun

Completely agree, as a common guy earning minimum wage I would still find it hard to justify spending £70 on a novel even if it does bring me enjoyment, in the end I still have bills to pay and every day living expenses, but I just can't see the people who are behind this app dropping the price to £20/£30 per novel, which is why I came up with the number £60/£70 or 3 to 4 ss per chapter because it seemed the most likely price that the Novel might be willing to drop to. It would basically be half the cost of what the novels are at the moment and the app would still be making lots of money.

But alas this app doesn't seem to listen to these issues that are actually very important, with novels now easily exceeding 10ss per chapter some 13 or even 14 ss per chapter it's really dis heartening to see such a great app fall so low.

One point about the translation quality. Although I, as an English speaker since I was like 7, like to have good grammar in my books, I'm doubtful that most readers here have English as their first language (or learned it when they were young). English is the people's language in the sense that if you have a German and a Taiwanese guy in Italy that need to communicate, they're going to do it with some form of broken English, more often than not. I don't remember the exact statistics, but the amount of conversations in English that occur between 2 native speakers is staggering low, something like 1-2%. I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that although some readers are alienated by the bad grammar on certain books, the amount is probably much lower than you would think, considering there's a good chance that a lot of readers don't even pick up on the mistakes, or even care. I still think good grammar is important, but then again, there are countless books out there, and if people really dislike it, then the translator isn't going to get readers, hence no revenue, hence is going to stop. Clearly, this isn't happening, so the issue is not that big, although it is admittedly frustrating for those who grew up reading western novels in English.

One thing I think is bad for the community is free SS. Admittedly, if you can't read anything for free, readers would be angry, but I don't think free SS is the solution. People can just make multiple accounts or read off of third-party sites and not need to pay. Of course, removing free SS would not remove people reading for free, but it would make it harder to read for free, or more exactly, it would make it less obvious, meaning people would be more inclined to buy SS. Clearly, we can't just remove free SS and not give anything in return, because then you'll just have more angry readers. I think a decent solution would be to make it so that every time something like 3 premium chapters get released, each user gets their first locked chapter released.

Basically, if a book has 900 chapters, free readers get 1 chapter for each 3 premium chapters, so when the book is done being translated, 300 are free and 900 are locked. If a user buys 100 chapters, since the first locked chapter would be the first one released, then they would have 400/900. Doing it this way means a few things:
                  1) Free users still get a chapter every ~2 days (more than the current premium system)
                  2) More incentive to buy SS since getting free chapters becomes more tedious and annoying.
                  3) More incentive for users to buy SS, since after reading 1/3 of the way through over such a long period of time, you're probably going to want to keep going.
                  4) More incentive to buy SS due to the earliest locked chapter being unlocked. Back when premium started, it was a fixed chapter being unlocked for everyone regardless of if you've unlocked something or not before. Hence, if you bought SS then stopped, you lost your free chapters even though free users got theirs, which was really frustrating. With this system, if someone buys 50 chapters, then they're permanently ahead 50 chapters, regardless of if they keep paying, and are not locked into it to keep daily chapters.

Anyway it might not exactly be the best suggestion, but I do think it would be better than what they have now.

WinterBud haha winter thanks for commenting this is exactly what I was hoping for when I said that I hope people take things in their own perspective instead of just blindly believing in me and you brought up a point I absolutely didn't even think of when I was writing this and this is absolutely true thanks

Sacredwisp make some really good points fellow daoist you're buying chapters and staying that number of chapters ahead I also really like that idea also kind of reminds me of what wuxiaworld does, I used to have a big problem when I bought chapters and then they became unlocked for free a few weeks later but nowadays the translators aren't unlocking any chapters for free later which really doesn't make me feel any better it just makes me feel like they're being cheaper and less loyal to their followers. And going into the free spirit Stone issue I think that they actually have a pretty good idea with the daily login bonus while some people might make multiple accounts to try to cheat this those kind of people are already using alternate sites that have ripped off their translations, a daily reward is a great business model to wrote people in constantly

Kni8ht what's up knight when you bring that up that is a pretty good way of looking at it but let's see what the actual math is

I'm going to say an average chapter is anywhere between 5 to 10 pages and will say an average book is anywhere between 300 and 400 pages so let's do 7 pages per chapter and a 350-page book and as we know it cost $0.99 to get 50 Spirit Stones US dollars so
                    350pages÷7pages=50chapters×10ss=500ss
                    500ss÷50ss=10sspurchase×0.99usd=9.9dolars
so basically we're looking at around 10 ish dollars depending on how much the translator wants per chapter this amount can be considered fairly average with most books on nook and Kindle going for around 5 to $18 but at the same time these aren't true published and professionally edited books these are web novels and their quality is not as high as real published books that is not to say there aren't very very high quality webnovels it's just the average quality is lower

                      Dao_of_books
fan fic tags ? dont they already had ?
lower stone price ? maybe not
review translator ? whats the point
better translator ? good idea but they are not cabbage
free chapters on premium one ? done that and not anymore, promotion time is over folks

Dao_of_books well, i gòogled average words per book and found it to be around 90k.. as i know qidian charges 1ss per 200 words, so it totals to 450ss, so yeah, you're right.

Still doesn't help me believe it's worth it. The actual books goes through editing phase, unlike the novels here.. some authors even type the same thing over and over, increasing the word count.. i.e. see library of heavens path

Imho it has to be cheaper than a real book, which right now isnt true..
