  • Rant: Don't Butcher Chinese Names Please

My story is set in modern day Chengdu. Hence,most of the characters are Chinese. Their names are: Gu Ren(male) ,Wang Xiu(female), Zhang Wei(male), Liu Ren(male), Li Wei(male).Please tell me whether these names make sense as all mandarin I know is by watching CN dramas. A little help will be appreciated,

      Xincerely no to tianmin and tianluo. tianluo makes me think of田螺 aka river snail. minyue makes me think of 民乐 aka folk music so no to that either. it also looks really feminine.

      out of that list, my favorite is yuhan. solds like cold jade which is really poetic.

      jinkai... I don't know how I feel about that honestly LMAO

                Xincerely well... jinkai is just like one of those names that you know it's chinese but it doesn't look like chinese?? i don't know how to explain it but it almost looks japanese?? :joy: but if I were to think of the chinese character equivalents, I would think open gold and that sounds kinda weird. but I guess it's not the worst thing. though it's still pretty strange. so that's why I have so much mixed feelings about jinkai haha.
