ramses01 Just look at amazon kindle unlimited and copy their pricing. Their subscription would be a much greater investment over elite membership which costs over two times more.
ELITE MEMBERSHIP
Tanalei I think you forget what kind of book you are reading. It would be insulting to compare a 'book' that puts out many chapters a day, often times full of 'fluff', and put it at the same price ranges as 2-4 hundred or more page books that authors spend time to flesh out and edit before publishing it into one cohesive format, not something like a web novel where the author is unable to easily edit after realizing the made a mistake.
Kagenesti Just the economics of a $25 subscription is idiotic. They lose money from the people who regularly purchase spirit stones and gain nothing from the people who don't because they can't afford it. One of the main reasons for subscription services in business is to get people to THINK that they need something and price it low enough that they will subscribe and forget, not thinking about how the low monthly subscriptions add up to hundreds of dollars a year.

Might subscribe for once if "Library of Heaven's Path" catch up with Chinese version. Over 500 chapters behind is pretty bad for Top 2 novel in Power Ranking.

Tanalei One flaw in your otherwise nice, though incomplete, analysis is your definition of "Fulls". Yes, technically 40,000 words is the starting point for a novel. However, in the markets that the books here are competing in, 40,000 is simply unsellably short. Authors in the field of fantasy and science fiction are told to target their books at 80,000 to 120,000 words - towards the longer end if there is substantial complexity and world-building going on. So your analysis is off by a factor of 2-3.
An example might be "Way of Choices" which I read on Gravity Tales and supported the author/translator by buying the Amazon novels as they came out. They published 4 volumes, each in the 100,000 to 140,000 word range, and priced at $3.99/volume (and then stopped - I would buy the rest if they ever published it!) That's about right.
My calculation (based on 10+ SS/chapter which is more the norm for the books I read here) is that the subscription is worthwhile as compared to SS purchase if you read 7 chapters/day (1.5 chapters free, and 5.5/day paid). It's worthwhile as compared to purchasing Amazon books if you read 18 chapters/day. It's never worthwhile when compared to subscribing to Amazon unlimited.
I don't think they need to match Amazon unlimited's price, but I think they should be within a factor of 2 if they want people to continue to subscribe. I'll undoubtedly subscribe for a couple of months once it looks like the software is stable. But it's not going to worthwhile paying that much for just daily chapter updates.
Just tossing my opinion here
The sub price is too much, it should be around 10-15 $ or Euro.
Otherwise you be scaring away readers or keep den on free.

Hmm I don't spend enough to make it worth 25 dollars a month but I like enough since I have some novels I put away in hopes that it'll go free doubt it though but with this I could just wait till there's enough chapter in the novels that I don't spend ss on but still think it's worth to read and pay the 25 for that month then cancel and wait till enough chapters go by. I wanted to read library of heaven but it's 1k locked chapter so I didn't want to touch it but this would allow me to touch the novel. So 25 dollars doesn't make any sense but if I did it that way I could make it worth 25 dollars hmmm. Just my thinking.
TheAdventurer Thanks for the answer but I totally canβt pay with SS. I only have the subscription option. What do I do? https://forum.webnovel.com/u/WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL
i have justed bought SS , can i use the SS to pay for the elite membership?
NO_to_Premium no unfortunately
LittleSleepyFox Makes a lot of sense. I dont think qidian worth more than netflix, so should be below $10 a month
It depends on how much you read. I read something like 3-5000 chapters a month so itβs well worth it for me, but your mileage may vary depending on how much you read.
How do the money from the elite membership get shared to the authors and translators?

Tanalei Umm, no, even eff no. You can't compare word counts between a filler-filled chinese webnovel and a reasonable ebook. If you get rid of all the filler, you have way less than your 1.5 million words. More than two-thirds is filler, (repeat info, or redundant descriptions, or effing full chapters of effing reactions of busybodies to MC's actions), Certainly more than the length of a good novel, but no more than a series. And in no way is a series 190$. Even David Weber's Safehold, at (currently) 10 books, is only 75ish $ on Amazon. And that's a bestselling author of (paperbacks and hardcover) books. Now, if you can afford it then obviously it's not overpriced for YOU. But compare it to, as others in this thread did, with netflix or amazon prime, and it is overpriced. Of course, if you compare it to what others on Patreon are willing to pay monthly for just one novel, it's not. In the end, it depends on whether Webnovel would gain more with less. And I think it would. I for one would be willing to pay 10$ per month, and i think that at this pricepoint, the quantity of memberships would generate more than 25@lesser subscriptors. But that's just a theory.
harrisonxxi Do you even have 3-5000 of NEW chapters a month?!? Also, if so, can you really keep things straight in your mind? cuz if I read more than say 10-15 novels, it gets iffy at the pace of 1-2 chapters a day, it all starts to get mixed up there.

Make it $15 or less and I will subscribe. Otherwise, not worth it. Why?
Because you can't keep the novel with you once you unsubscribe (unless I'm misunderstanding something). They're not really yours to keep. So that cost is a lending cost.
Chapters that were unlocked during subscription should remain unlocked (for our entire library if not all books) then maybe $25 is OK (pricey but might be acceptable).
You want more people reading? More slices of a bigger pie? Reduce the cost barrier.
akaDEA I reread novels all the time, but typically Iβll go back and reread a whole series after a chunk of chapters comes out.
If you join today and its a monthly membership does the monthly subscription end 30 days from joining? Or it goes by whatever end date the month ends with?
February has 28 days this year so if i join today I could only take advantage of 24 days left in the month?
It's a good option if you were new to the system, and want to binge read lots of completed novels.
Otherwise, NOPE.
for me it is not worth it because im even looking for raw to read :-:
25 ripoff price. Qidian sucks.
il continue reading on pirate sites. they got all your originals now too.
@WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL I bought the elite membershit three days ago, and it still isn't showing up.
RandomchaoS give us pay ticket
$25 for a sub is ridiculous, but if webnovel priced this with the thought that people will binge read then unsub, I guess it makes sense.
Its just that $25 outprices all other sub options in america that I know of.
Its nearly 3x as expensive as amazon prime
It's more expensive than nexflix, weekly shonen jump. My vpn fee, loot crate, etc.
It's just flat out expensive when it comes to sub fees in general.
Yuki_Qing Somehow... Even tho' i already buy google voucher... Enough for the discounted price... The app still tell me that it's insufficient... I wanna cry
phantomizer31 erm, do you mean you buy ss or buy elite subscription (cause elite will unlock all novel/comic for 1 month). lol, my ss always not enough..
WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL Its been over a day since I paid for subscription and i still haven't gotten word on it.
Order ID: MS6B17NN60
Sorry I posted the pay ticket here: https://forum.webnovel.com/d/20049-elite-membership-not-working/12
Congratulations WEBNOVEL
Normal Subscription System = pay to borrow
Count down = 1 month
Right now
$25 half price > full price
Oh yes
don't forget exchange rate!
Pros = Unlock books for 1 month
Cons = Money becomes like a log in a river rage.
Conclusion= Only Whales, Sharks & those who love subscriptions will fave it.
I'm only a child who lives in a shoe house not a whale with a money tree. This does not concern me.
How does this effect the authors? Do they still get paid the same amount?
LastError The price point is ridiculous. Amazon Prime is $12/month, and that gives you Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Video, and free shipping on online orders. Netflix is about $11/month for unlimited streaming. By way of comparison, Webnovel provides translations and originals of extremely variable quality, dubious frequency of releases, and uselessly inflated reviews ... why is this supposed to be worth $25/month? If Netflix can make bank with their 11/month price, while producing top quality originals, tell me why Webnovels can't make plenty of bank off their content which requires minimal resources? They're asking too much for too little in return, and as LittleSleepyFox aptly outlined, they stand to make way more money (and hopefully pass it along to the authors and translators, giving them incentive to step up their game) if they charge a more reasonable price.
SweetLychee lol at the poem you ended with. I'm gonna steal that.
I understand that Elite Membership is good for phones and tablets. Does this also include computer use? Is it just like a subscription that is good across all platforms? I easily spend $34.50 USD or more per month. This is my entertainment, since I really don't watch TV even though we have subscriptions to Netflix, Viki, Hulu, etc. for the rest of the family. Yes, it is pricier than KU but I get to read novels from China v. what's available on KU. WebNovel and Qidian do a better job translating than the other free Chinese webnovel sites, where the names of the same characters may change 2 to 3 times within the same chapter creating confusion. I don't mind supporting the authors, since they work hard to create immersive stories.
CestVraimentMoi Did you just forget that Amazon has the reedits of the books found here (aka better editions) and they did the whole promo here on that?
