Writing Prompts Contest #61 & #62
My story for WPC #62
The One Who Was Reborn Into An Ash Tree
{shortened synopsis} By the junction at the main road, opposite the boardwalk from the city park, stands an Ash tree.
At first glance there is nothing significant about the tree, however there are rumours that if one was to wish on the tree for success, they were almost guaranteed it.
While the rumours are baseless and untrue, the tree is magical for two reasons.
One, it can read your mind. Two, it used to be human.
Basically (because I’m bad with synopsis writing) it is about an Ash tree that knows it used to be a human but has no memories about their past life or why they became like this. It also possesses the power to read minds and so spends its days observing humans. The story follows what they see as a tree, obviously getting into their past life in a (hopefully) unique-ish way.
It’s my first ever entry to WPC so please read and give feedback on how I can improve my writing. Thanks :)
Lonely_sparrow Ah, maybe it was about how having asian characters can lock novels sometimes?
Oh really? I’ve only been here a little less than three months, but the first contest I joined was one week, and then they made it 14 days ever since the first Filipino writing prompt. How long have you seen it?
Can I use more than one main topics in my novel.
Warriorprincess200 You mean from both contest prompts? Technically yes, but you can only enter that story into one prompt, not both.
Sorry, I have a complaint to make... or a suggestion to make.
I am dead tired of starting to read original novels that soon get dropped. Many of them created because of this wonderfull writing prompts contest. It is frustrating to the extreme.
I get is important to incentivate writers and there is many good original novels. But it's getting to a polluting point where there is a lot of unofficially dropped novels laying around.
Can you please do something about it? Like maybe stoping users with too many unfinished novels of participating or blovking writers who drop novels from keep writing?
Sorry, I may be part of a minority, but starting on a new novel and spectate new chaps for weeks, than a month and so on just to find is was created for the contest and than dropped is... sad at least... u.u

Nizze I understand your gripe. I feel like a lot of the novels that don’t win in the top three at least are dropped. However, rather than being an issue with the writing prompts themselves, it’s the very fact that they’re writers which is the issue.
For example, I entered a Mage contest because it matched with a story I was already creating and hadn’t uploaded to Webnovel. Unfortunately, because I was new, I didn’t know about the 10k words or how to properly promote it. Iirc the list of ten wasn’t even filled up, so yeah I didn’t make that 10k req. The only reason why I continue writing this story is because I already planned it all out from start to finish and want to write a book professionally—with or without Webnovel.
As for the second contest, which is this current tree one. I just wrote it for kicks because the prompt was funny. I’ll be upfront, I don’t plan to continue writing this story after the contest end if it doesn’t receive a good response.
But that’s because I have a life outside writing, and there’s no point to continue with something that no one reads or likes much, and I’m not all that attached with. I’m sure that other writers would feel the same about continuing to write a story that gets little response even though they put effort and time into it. Writers need support after all. We’re not free story making machines.
As for the first story, it’s my baby, so I don’t really care if I don’t get a huge response. I write that story not to just write, but because I want to share my story regardless if it’s just one person or a thousand reading.
Anyway, that’s my two cents on the issue. (And this isn’t limited to just Webnovel but all writing platforms.)

Writing Prompts #61
Hello! I will now shamelessly promote my story here, haha!
Title: “Stuck in a Novel: A Game of Love and Fate”
Synopsis: Ysara Leonor’s life could be perfectly described by the words similar to ordinary, normal, and simple. But that life of hers turned upside down when she finds herself stuck in the famous novel of Laro ng Tadhana (A Game of Destiny), a book written by her deceased grandmother.
And the only way to escape is to finish the story of the novel. But there’s a catch: she has to make the villainess of the story the one who gets the happily ever after.
For writing prompt #61 - it is mostly about discovery and courage currently but I hope to show the betrayal and escape bit in the later part of the story. It is my first time writing a novel. Hope to get more reviews please. Criticisms that can help me win the contest will be even better! XD
Subject: Jane Smith
Intended genre: Mystery
Synopsis:
My name is Jane Smith. I can fly and walk through walls. Seriously.
...
Fine. My soul can.
Sounds fun? What if you stumble upon a murder with no evidence or witnesses except 'you'?

Thank you for your support!
Chryiss yes I do get that... so how about changing it to one shots and the "winners" get support from webnovel to transform it in a whole and long novel?
Yeah it must suck to work on something and feel it's not recognized enough... then think about how the writers who like you plan a novel, work hard on it and post it just to me drowned by all the novels created for a previous prompt with the same theme?
Let's use Last Wish System as an example...
It's a great original system novel and was promoted by webnovel. But what if it was launched a little after the System prompt and without webnovel support?
I don't deny it's nice to encourage ON writers and promote their novels. The translated ones have the pool as promotion after all... but the way this contest is right now is more harmful intead.
The readers get lost amidst so many dropped novels ans good ON get drowned by the influx of novels with the same theme that end up dropped.
Now when looking for a new novel I need to verify when the author (or tr) last published a chap, If it is original and if it's from the last 3 or so prompts... else the chance of being left hanging after starting escalates a lot.
Is just like starting to watch a new series and in the middle of it finding out it will be cancelled without even a proprer ending... u.u
Sorry... I'm just too frustrated after going through this more than 5 times... u.u' don't even know if is bad luck or if I have bad taste inchosing novels...
Nizze & Chryiss sorry if this question sounds stupid but stories for prompts don't have to be finished? I mean on April 7, the stories don't have to have ended by then? I'm new to the site so I have no idea. I just joined the contest too so I thought we have to write something that's suppose to finish by the end date of the competition. lmao and ill be posting the last 3 chapters of my work later too
schreient yeah... not really...I mean... I would really love it if it was that way but... well reading through the rules... there's a limit of least words... and some advising on updating daily... but no exigence of it being a complete novel...
At least both me and many writers seem to be interpreting this way since there's been so many unfinished and dropped novels lately.
Could @WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL clarify this point for us please? And if possible do something about the dropped novels?
Even asking the writers to make clear at the synopsis that the novel is made for the contest would already be of some help...
schreient Nope, it just has to have 10k words by the end of two weeks, not finished. It’s better if it’s not finished in case Webnovel offers a contract. There’s also no rule that contest prompts have to be completed. Actually, the majority of the stories on here aren’t completed. Especially for premium, more chapters = more money.
Hope I'm not late to the party, but here's me being shameless.

First time writing on here, but I hope you enjoy.
Chryiss ooooh i didn't know that. LMAO so it was useless to compress a story in a few chapters. if I knew I'd have written something else. but it's ok. it's my first time, and i didn't really know a lot. on that note, I've already finished writing mine. couldn't wait for the end date coz I have to go travel.
Another SSP =)) Completed novel for the writing prompt #61 it's short but i hope you'd drop by and read. merci beaucoup

My novel for wpc #61
I am busy with my studies so the updates are little late. But i hope people read it and support me.
Hello again! I am here because my thick skin willed it. :)
I have just updated my entry with chapter two, and if there is anything I could work on to better it, please notify me. Thank you!
Also, I didn't clarify in my last post, but this is for #62.
