  • 【Important Announcement】Monthly Elite subscriptions adjustment

I was thinking. Why not do it like this.
The subscription at exemple 30$.
The subscription would give assess to 3-4 unlimited novels and make it so that you can change each of your 3-4 unlimited novels each 10 days.
It would give a stable subscription to those that have interesting novel.
It would also facilitate your way to pay author and make webnovel earn stable income.

Let say it 3 novels at 30$ and someone subed for 30 day on all 3. 7$ for the author and 3 for webnovel. X3

The current price of chapters / ss is a bit to high.
The average price of a physical book at a bookstore is at ~20$ with a word count of 150k.
150k words is around 110 chapters on webnovel (at a ~1400 words per chapters).

So let do some math in my currency ($canadian) it cost me 65$ per 3250ss.
The average price per chapters is 8 ss.
3250÷8=406 chapters.
406 chapters is around 4 books.
4 books is ~80$.
But around 1/3+ of a physical book price go on the printing and more depending of the advertising.
Webnovel play the advertising role so let just stick with 1/3.
2/3 of 80$ is 53.33$
So im paying more to read on webnovel vs a real physical books?
The average ss i should pay per chapters with ~1400 words is 6.5ss and less if you make cheaper than physical books.

I might be wrong but i feel like the price of ss should be reviewed.

WEBNOVEL_OFFICIAL i really hope you guys get another one up soon... i read far more than the spirit stones can keep up with =/ especially since more and more novels get premium at 100 chapters >.< authors are gonna lose even more income when people stop reading as much

    por_tal Exactly this.

Besides, a lot of the novels have 600-2000 chapters and the book will start costing 100€ which is mental.

A lot of the novels have typos, messed up sentences and other weird stuff you would NEVER see in a 15-20€ physical book.

Other sites might have a few adds at the side, but rather have that than need 10 000 SS i used to spend before this premium, and i have better use for that money.

Where are the Webnovel responses? 1 month to come up with a new system? No way. there are many pricing models for these kind of business that could be installed within a week.

    To Whom It May Concern,

First, let me say that I enjoy many of your stories on your site and the ease of use your set up provides. I actually started looking at your site just as the subscription ended and purchased it without realizing your were discontinuing it.

The issue I have, which many others have brought up is the cost versus the value. The Spirit Stones are insanely expensive compared to the subscription and other avenues, including but not limited to Amazon, free copies online, and other sites. I subscribed initially by justifying it as having access to a large number of books in genres that I enjoyed. The Spirit Stones method is not worthwhile or an investment I would want to make when there are alternatives that are far cheaper.

In terms of a business model, moving over to a subscription was a long term plan to generate revenue while Spirit Stones are short term. Using contests, developing original content, and promoting your own authors would drive subscriptions over time and help you earn money over a longer period of time. Spirit Stones on the other hand force people to look elsewhere. There is a reason that Amazon, Netflix, and various other companies try to develop original content, in order to draw people to their site.

The micro-transaction of your site only works when the micro-transactions are for non-critical content. It is fine to micro-transact for addons like skins and different models, but people are inherently turned off from micro transactions from core content. I would rather pay $100 one time, than $1 a hundred times and I am sure many people feel this way as well.

My advice is to bring back the subscription model but have year long plans, invest in advertising and original content to draw people in, promote your contests more, and have more feed back with your community. I hope you take my suggestion in the spirit in which it was given. I look forward to the new premium method you plan to develop in the future.

    Sincerely,
    A Frustrated Reader

Also: F****K u webnovel for not sending a message to the inbox. It's not that hard and would have kept customer complaints down. Now i am just very angry @u and i'll probably find another website to read (hopfully one that pirates from here just to mess with u)

bluesenor Lucky you get it at 7 try when chapters are as high as 12-20 spirit stones and sometimes they are really short which is way overcharging it’s cheaper to just go buy a book or novel and keep it cause if you log off you don’t keep it it all resets too which is utter bull

Decided to just use free spirit stones on Library of Heaven’s Path and drop every other book. I’ll pick up reading the others again when a new subscription is out. I would boycott this site completely but Library of Heaven’s Path is too good a book to drop.

Britt agreed, even a novel with 1000 chapters usually costs 6-8 SS per chapter (and often 9-11 in reality due to so many authors fluffing word count with overly comlicated descriptions and comparative monologues or in the case of RPG genre. Describing every single creature or skill or weapon)... 6000-8000 stones

And let us ALL be clear, they are called chapters, but in reality they are more like pages... 1 chapter is roughly the size of 2 pages in a book, so spending 100$ just to read a 500 page book... Is beyond a ripoff... Unless it is a 1st edition limited release special edition ... Then i would be okay... But in reality, over half of webnovels works are just translated works from qidian or other sources and it would be simpler to go find the original work and use google translate to get a rough translation done ( it may not be the best, but it is still readable), as for authors doing original works... I have enjoyed plenty who keep their work concise but still full of detail to make it an enjoyable read

Rhueless WELL. 2 simple fixes for your frustration as we all had that issue

          1) never go back and rebuy past chapters... Dumb move. Just keep reading from where you were last. Cheapest fix for ya

          2) download the novel. Even after subscription ended, just go offline and read whatever you downloaded and it costs 0$ extra

I’ll say this again, rate them poorly on the app store/google play! I been seeing a bunch of 1-2 star reviews recently about these same issues which is great. But now I also see fake 5 stars reviews that you can tell are probably by Webnovel staff. Take a moment to rate them because that’s probably the only way we can get their attention.

          Cornep that was their "issue"

With SS what we pay to unlock a chapter went straight to the author/editor/translator. So figure 8 stone per, for 1000 chapters (2500 for 49.99$ means 150$) per reader (if the reader binged all 1000) then the subscription came, 25$ a month to read anything and everything... But. That doesnt go straight to the author/editor/translator... Which the authors etc complained about, naturally, because their income took a major crash lol, especially those popular works who got millions of views per chapter... 8 stone for 1 chapter, 100,000 views... 800,000 stone... After profit splitting even at 10% thats at least 150$ for the author for a single chapter. Maybe more or less. How do you profit share with thousands of authors on a 25$ subscription bought by ... Ill say 100,000 people

So yeah. W.N. shot themselves in the face with that move, screwed the authors etc because i am fairly certain the subscription was not covered in their contract and thoroughly shite on readers who took the economic option and then got shut down and now it has been weeks since W.N. even bothered replying to our complaints and questions

KylarVanDrake i did just that you can actually find several of the novels from this site other places for free i have no clue which site had the novels first and i do not care as long as i can read all is well... supporting authors is of course the better choice if you are given the option but being stabbed in the back by greedy and unscrupulous sites is more than most good tempered readers can bear...
