For a platform that focuses on "reading", I believe having TTS is essential help for people with slower reading comprehension (me), as well as for those with disabilities related to sight. This is currently a feature most commonly enjoyed in book reading apps, which makes me want to compile my own EPUBs just to get my app to speak the stories for me.

I really hope Qidian gets this feature soon! I'm sure it'll attract a lot of readers (or listeners, in this case).

allenguarnes I use my phone's native TTS feature (called Talk Back) to read novels to me, especially when I'm driving/working. The Talk-back feature is actually an accessibility option to help the blind use the phone. The sad part is, though, that you can't turn off the phone screen (and must be wary of anything touching the phone screen when it is being read).

But yes, I would love to have a TTS feature for Webnovel. That does sound awesome! I fully support it!

Nou You're right. Mine has one too! But it's sadly just too much of a hassle to use. I prefer having TTS working on the background for times like when I'm driving for example. Makes traffic a lot more enjoyable.

I want this just so I can close my eyes while enjoying my favorite novels. My eyes are pretty much dying out of novel addiction.

and my eyes started to blur because of reading too much

Would pay if someone actually read them out and provided a high fidelity playlist.

Machine speech is acceptable but takes some of the joy out of it.

How much would you pay for a service like that?

Ether per chapter or an unlimited access subscription per novel.

Or we request our favorite youtuber-who-reads-books-and-uploads-them-as-audios and get them into the CN novel craze too?

Little_White True, but I read and listen at the same time. My reading comprehension is lacking, but having it read to me while I myself read makes comprehending the story a lot easier.

now~ now~... No one going to listen to the meeting's important point anymore if everyone were like us. hahaha

As someone who works at home I really enjoy the chrome extension speakit (version that is no longer available). Not only can i be updated with the novel i'm following, I can even work at the same time.

TTS would be very hard, given most english TTS features can't properly pronounce the chinese words that are used in these novels.

Leylin_Farlier That's true, but it DOES work. You just have to read while listening. After a while, you get used to how TTS pronounces some words. After that, you can seriously use TTS to "read" while taking a bath, driving, etc. It's very useful.

suggestion for tts ... they can use amazon poly for natural and smooth audio translation without voice actors...but sadly its not for free

I suggest you use an app called " @voice". You can either download the novels as epubs or you can share them to the app and it will read it to you. You have to play with the voice, speed, and tone settings. But once you get it to your liking after listening for a few minutes it's almost like a real person. Its only on android though.

DaoistOCReader I already use this. The inconvenience here is that you have to add each chapter to your reading list. It works but it's not exactly an elegant solution as opposed to having TTS built-in.

Also, I'm not exactly sure about this, but I think most authors and Qidian wouldn't be happy about epubs being distributed because it takes away from their potential revenue. Thats's why this feature would be really great since it'll prevent some people from downloading epubs just for TTS using their book readers.

@Qidian promised TTS before the year ends (assuming the sources from above are real), so I'm still hopeful regarding this.

I'm also really interested in this feature! Currently to do this, I've to create an epub version and then load it in moon+ reader to read with the built in TTS function. Il would be great to have TTS directly into the mobile app!

The TTS function on webnovel is SH*T, they need to fix it, get it integrated with google TTS or just allow us to download it into EPUB and listen to it.... honestly... if they are getting some much of our money... they should give us the best of what they can do.. and the best is integrating it with 3rd part TTS... since everyone has their own TTS that they like to listen to..
