was looking at the stats for my novel (one that features historical romance as one of the main genres and is intended towards the "female audience", as Webnovel calls it), and apparently, 85% of the readers are male + 0% of the readers are female?

Here's image proof.
stats

I highly doubt that this is true. it's not that I necessarily mind the fact that there are male readers, but when it's to the point where 85% of them are and there's zero female readers, it really makes me think if there was some sort of mistake where male and females were switched for this stat? or am I interpreting this wrong? is anyone else experiencing this / can someone please explain what's going on?

and of course, like everyone else, I'm not the biggest fan of these new stats. it's kind of annoying to have to go all the way to the workplace and then explore and then create new chapter to make a new chapter when you can just go to the dashboard and click new chapter in the old version. where are the italics and other formatting options? and the delete novel option too because I have plenty of those that I need to delete. :sob:

Yeaaaa... I think it is currently broken. The stats shown on my dashboard aren't updated.. The demographics section is also screwed if my memory isn't wrong.

GleamInAbyss it really sucks if they're putting out something with so many bugs & not giving anyone an option to revert back to the old version :(

yaoyueyi Well, we can only hope for the best. At least they are doing their best in making inkstone better 😁😀

yaoyueyi On top it says "Last 48 hours" though 🤔 so I'm guessing it only shows the stats for the last 48 hours. But since this is happening for nearly everyone, (majority male readers) then I think it's just a bug 🤔🤔 probably still working out the details. There's been loads of changes lately.

            Hmm it seems like it.
When I saw 86% male readers I was like seriously???
Not that I've any problem with that but....😅
How can there be only 7.68% females
            Isn't wN full of females🤔

yaoyueyi Well, Maybe those male are female undercover.....and the female are... you know...

I'm curious about the number of UNKNOWN you have. When you are supposed to register you have to choose a gender or those people do not have gender.

XOMatsumaeohana yeah, I noticed that! it's actually even weirder since before I updated it, there were still 3% female readers, and when I updated last (abt 12 hours ago), it changed to 0 female readers :')
I just wanted to see if it really was a bug or if I was somehow misinterpreting the information b/c sometimes I'm just dumb with this stuff haha

Poche lmao I kind of think that it's the system messing up and switching males and females since my story is a romance that I didn't think would appeal to most male readers as much.
unknown is really weird though :grimacing:

XOMatsumaeohana I didn't even think to compare the male to female, and wow, it really does say 0% female which is funny because one was a boy band fan fic from a contest. :joy: (Well they do have male fans too, but still, that cracked me up.) I swore that the other day I saw pink along with blue though, so maybe it's a recent glitch?

Oh yeah, and however they compile these stats is different from the previous version. In the window that shows all of the books at once with the Explore button, the number of collections (I haven't checked if views are too, but most likely yes) is different from the numbers on the Google Analytics-like dashboard.

This seems sorta silly to me from a web developer standpoint, but possibly they couldn't find a way (or were to cheap to find a way? lol) to integrate the systems since the old one was much quicker. If it is indeed in the last 48 hours, that definitely sounds like they're using some other pre-made plugin/algorithm/analytics hosting-package. This makes me wonder if that's part of the reason why they're encountering so many bugs...

Well, I'm ignoring all those stats stuff anyway because it's only shows real data for one of my books. No point in watching zeros stay zeros. :joy: Even the one with actual numbers I don't understand half of what it's supposed to tell me since I'm used to seeing these sort of metrics for websites (like SEO or e-commerce).

The devs will check if it's a bug.

Sometimes analytics for things such as gender isn't easy to obtain since readers might just choose to provide fake information. The others are more obvious numbers.

Chryiss lowkey same. I feel like the average writer would have to study the line graphs they have really hard to make sense of them (tbh I'm alway bad at graphs though so that's probably why) and I'm definitely not going to look at it for more than a minute at most.
& also, random irrelevant question: are you a web developer?

CKtalon Even so... real girls assuming as boys? I think it is more like boys pretend as girls.

Robrave It could be people just choosing boy by default when they were given the option to choose.

yaoyueyi I'm not skilled or experienced enough to call myself one by any means, but I've made several websites myself over the years since high school (WordPress, WiX, Weebly). Currently, I'm working in the AI industry and designing parts of the company website along with other content creation and design along with marketing. I'm not doing the actual implementation though because our current project require a lot of back-end and CMS development which I can't do. I'm majoring in data analytics, but I dabble in tiny bits of programming. In short, I just like technology I guess. :) (And of course anything to do with design and art. It's a weird mix since I'm also a math tutor. I always joke it's because I'm asian lol. XD)

The devs have studied the problem. There might be some problems if the book has few readers. In that case, the 48 hours thing can be easily skewed by a few readers since it's a percentage.

Veronica8 I just got lured in by the AI. XD I’ll change jobs to my actual major once I graduate. But I’m hoping to do masters, so we’ll see how that goes lol. I’d love to work for a game company too. I’ve coded a few simple games, and it’s pretty fun. Of course, I wouldn’t be the programmer, just designer. I can’t do that kind of high tech sorcery! 😂
