Dear webnovel staff.
please do something about book reviewing it's a disaster at this point, ratings are infiltrated and most of the reviews are bs.
here is the pattern they follow; someone begging for more chapters, same words repeated over and over again to meet the minimum word count, talking about everything but the book itself or some random guy giving stats.

Among hundreds of reviews some books have there might be one or two actual reviews. Don't believe me? Just visit your favorite book and check out the latest reviews.

How to fix it?
While there is no silver bullet solution to it there are quite a few ways to deal with it, here are some ways i could think of right when I was writing this.

  1. Only accept reviews for actual ongoing titles.

  2. Reviewers should read 1/5 of the novel for their review to count (I'm coming with that numer on top of my head, it can be any percentage)

  3. Accept reviews from people whose account are older than X (X can be any number of days).

  4. Minimum account level to review.

  5. Like AnjGee mentioned, you should remove daily rewards for reviewing, it causes more harm than good.

There are many other ways to reduce the number of shity reviews but those were all i can think of right now (it's 9 am and I'm at work - _-)

      MiddleEastern I agree, every time someone leave an all emoji reviews in my novel I delete it, it pisses me off too, coz obviously they just put comment randomly without actually reading the novel, in order for them to gain some ss.

          AnjGee wow you can even delete reviews, didn't know that. It's a dangerous privilege that authors have they can delete any review that they don't like....

          Btw I'm so sorry i didn't mean you, i don't know you or what you delete and what not but if all authors deleted meaningless review the problem would be partially solved but again would they delete a 5 star review even if it's bs? I don't think so.

              My suggestion? Take away an author's power to delete reviews. With this, the author can remove anything that might make their story look bad. This defeats the entire point of constructive reviewing.

                MiddleEastern yes you can delete it. I only remove those reviews with nothing but emoji. Well, regarding the five star BS, it would depend on the author... Hahaha

                    Agree! Just came here to start the same topic. I found about 120 reviews from one guy in a novel and all of them 5 stars! Novel in my opinion wasn’t that good but if idiots are leaving reviews like “expexpexp” or without any sense then sorry. And the good reviews with arguments are deleted by authors? ( Happen to me because the author did not like my score of his novel). Why do you even give opinion of leaving review if it doesn’t have anything to do with the opinion about novel at all!? My proposition is to give opinion to report review or comments and after a number of reports “ban” the account. I could see people leaving reviews from few accounts with the same comments and the accounts are different just by the number at the end.

                      I received a system notification that my review got deleted by an author oof. I've been trying to locate the book, but sadly; i can't find it.

                      But if i manage to, the author is in trouble with me. So if you see this I'm still searching for you.

                        Reviews lost all meaning since i found out that authors can delete them. That must be the worst design choice ever, why even bother reviewing knowing it can get deleted if the author disagree?
                        At this point it's more like exp farm than actual reviews.

                            EnderPL rewarding reviews need to go, most of what you said can easily be avoided if they removed the reward for it.
                            Who would type '' expexpexp'' daily at every novel they see if not for the reward except authors/translators? For the purpose of getting featured or something?. Don't know if there are authors who do that but it's a possibility since there is no consequences for doing it.
