I use the site through a mobile browser on my tablet. I tend to preload pages at home because I read on the train where there isn't much connection. Every time I interact with the screen, the site tells me I'm offline. This used to only happen on the final loaded chapter, but now it's happening on all of them. I'm guessing this change might be related to the high CPU usage.

It may be trying to keep track of your progress for your library better or there may be something inefficient with the infinite scroll. Of course ads are always suspect.

I'd love to know what it is so I'm not out of battery when I'm returning home. Otherwise, there's always reading material on less energy consuming sites.

Has anyone tried a MacBook Pro (10.13.2) with Firefox?

What kind of CPU do you have. I cant get past 1% on my laptop

I use MBP(10.13.1) with 4-core intel i5 2.3ghz, I didn't encounter this issue. Did you try only open webnovel in the firefox? thanks.

Hi shllove . Yes only webnovel.
        Before the screenshots:
Fresh restart, only Firefox running and activiity monitor.
Tracking protection disabled, Ghostery disabled, AdBlockPlus disabled.
After a minute or two, the fan starts running.
        See link for screenshots.

        Using MBP 10.13.3 (17D47)
I should also note that browsing the forum (here) does not result into high CPU usage.

i didnt experience that in my laptop

            hi, same problem here.
trying firefox plugin umatrix and blocking www.yueimg.com css solves the high cpu usage
but without css is no solution

While I have never had the site use up that much of my processor.

The main problem most likely is one of three things, what ever they use to track where you go on the site, what novels you are reading where you read to and so on. Which we know they do.

Or the ads, Banner ads are notorious for destroying website performance. Considering one is at the bottom of every single chapter. If you load more then one chapter by scrolling on further down, you will quickly ramp up the amount of banner ads that are loading and running. I personally have seen the site uses less of my CPU when running some type of ad blocker(relax admins I turn it off for legit sites like yours). Even tho that should use up almost more because its another process running in the background.

Or you simply need to run some anti malware/spyware. Most the time it is this tho, make sure your protection is up to date and scan often. Also try clearing your cache. Because it could be all the cookies you get from ads.

WonderDuckie Thanks for your feedback. In fact, recently we have a minor optimization for the ads. We only show the recent three ads ( ads of current chapter, the previous chapter and the next chapter)

                  Bump.
I'm getting 10% high cpu when reading from laptop.
                  Needs some fixing.

dapenggaofei Thanks for the initial response. Just wanted to ask what you have found when you checked on this?

                      23 days later

im also intered on knowing what is going on... my cpu is heating too much and this problem happen only while reading a chapter, so i know its not a problem with the rest of the website but looks like its also not a problem with ads because even with ublock active im still having this problem

After checking a little, it looks like the problem is with the linked style sheets.... i dont know what the hell are you guys doing with css but is pretty bad...

                          6 months later

I have the same problem, my cpu usage go from 4-6 % to 70% after one minute on a novel on webnovel .
If you don't fix it , there will be no other solution than go read the novels on mobile. (or read it on some pirated website).
btw I tried Firefox, chrome and edge and the same problem happens every time.
