So, only really a couple options here:

Either someone at WebNovel decided to interpret "Female Lead" as "targeted at females", which they've already said they were not going to do when this type of problem has been addressed previously

OR

Someone at WebNovel thinks gay men and women are the same thing, and is calling gay men female. I shouldn't have to explain further why that's sexist and homophobic. (Then again, this IS a Chinese company, so it wouldn't surprise me)

I wish they have another section strictly for LGBTQ. So one male. One female. One LGBTQ.

I have nothing against it but I have no interest reading those books. So having LGBTQ placed under female means less straight romance books would be released & vice versa. I have to wait 2 weeks now. I know boy love books are extremely popular so it’ll be super nice if they have another section so it’s a win-win for everyone.

But, why to remove them? It's only a matter of choosing not to read what you don't want to read .
Or does it matter because of ranks?
What's the real problem?
Well, there are fan fictions labeled as regular novels as well, and counting in novels ranks, for what matter.

There are a lot of inconsistencies regarding how books are labeled on WN. And LGBT being in top female chart is a lesser problem, ...if it can be considered a problem at all. Good for them to have public.

I believe 'Female lead ' can be read as 'lead towards female' , perhaps not meaning ' female main character'. But not sure.

SrtaA I believe 'Female lead ' can be read as 'lead towards female' , perhaps not meaning ' female main character'. But not sure.

Speaking as both an experienced writer and native English speaker, no, it doesn't. It means exactly what it reads as.

Clowniac Good to know. So it's the most strange way to classify a huge range of novels I saw in my entire life.

SrtaA it’s cause webnovel is owned by Qid which is owned by the Chinese government for all intensive purposes. And China is ya know anti lgbt

Oneoneone111 Uhm, well, I don't think it's the reason. I believe it just followed an old directive; and, just when they discovered/were pressed to acknowledge there were LGBT novels (and a huge audience for it), they put it in the most obvious place: where women, which are the majority of readers for this genre, would easily find it.
Anyway... It would be nice if they could relabel the novels in main genres such as: Action, Sci Fi, Romance, Thriller, and so on. AND put tags for leads (male lead, lgbt lead, female lead), just as any other tag. And tags for BL, Yuri, Harem, No Romance, etc).
As for me, I don't mind if the lead is a dog or an unicorn, man or woman; I'd like to choose by genre, then refine my search using tags.

I mean, if we assume WN is anti LGBT, the whole theme could simply be banned.

SrtaA I don't think this is an issue of LGBT being mixed into the rankings, but that it hasn't been provided an appropriate category in the WHAT'S NEXT section, which is where readers use energy stones to vote for NEW translations.

The problem stems from having two sections for books: "female lead" and "male lead"
This largely came about because when the energy stones system was first implemented, the romance novels had been dominating the vote early on (because the existing novels were mostly wuxia/xanxia/action) which caused dissatisfaction with people who didn't want to read romance novels. At the same time, people were mad that all novels with female lead were all listed as romance. So they broke it into the two current categories, where the intention is that "female lead" generally covers romance, but now they have a new categorical issue with labeling BL as female lead.
Let's see if they actually figure out how to crawl out of this mess.

              16 days later

A gay male lead is still a male protagonist. There are plenty of romance novels under male lead. If there was a gay female lead where would they put her? Surely they won’t put her in the male section. The thing is, most people on this site are really into yaoi so a novel with an actual female protagonist will win less than 40% of the time. Except for novels with gay couples, novels with female protagonists are more popular than novels with male protagonists so it doesn’t even make sense for them to move yaoi from the section they belong in. Right now the second most popular voted even has a few more votes than the male protagonists most voted novel.
