  • Lonelytree To be honest I would expect translators to be one of the fiercest group protesting MTL.
Quidian makes unpopular decisions and to be honest mostly ignore issues brought up on this forum, so they lose paying readers. But I can't see how lowering quality of the product they offer would help. They at most lose more paying customers who will feel conned. It is slippery slope.
I am not really sure how big percentage of reading community is willing to accept MTL (I for one prefer to drop novel instead of looking for MTL), but I think that a lot of them do that because it's free.

    • Lonelytree No. I understand that company needs to earn, but if they really MTL novels and charge full price there is seriously something wrong with people managing the company. Can you imagine going to bookstore to find book translated to broken English? Would you really be willing to pay full price?
On the other hand how is book supposed to win if it scares away considerable amount of readers with terrible translation? You can't just expect readers to accept it.

      • So is it going to be some kind of purge of adult content or something?

        • Yeah, the truth is that WN becoming stingy is because of piracy, although most of us used pirated source at least once. On the other hand I have a question. For example 'I shall seal the heaven' or 'Coiling Dragon' are owned by Quidian but translated by I think Wuxiaworld. Did they strike a deal with translators or just straight out copied translation without giving a damn?

          • Ohhh, I,m late to the party.... shame. I blame forum not being app friendly.
So imma gonna give my opinion.
            1. Free pass sound like actually good idea, now I know that I can unlock 3 chpts a day no matter the price. I think I usually made around 40 ss for free a day so if I use it right I can actually profit. Or not really lose much. Although I don't get it why they had to lower free income only for week or two and get angry mob to lash at them.
            2. Did someone say Elite Subscription? As professional hater of the topic, please allow me. Although authors got 50% drop in revenue, it was more of long term solution. I want to belive that if they gave it some more time it would actually bring more profits when more and more users started using it. But I guess WN has their people that asses that kind of things and they came to conclusion that it won't happen. If not and they were only after immediate profit, well... I remember being very sour by then because I paid for subscription and went on a rampage with my paid ss that I accumulated and gifted it away to authors, because why not? When they cancelled it I was without subscription or ss, and WN assumed "we don't need to tell you anything" stance.
            3. @Tomoyuki I can't completly agree that WN isn't responsible for dropped novels. It is not like they don't profit from it, right? You used fast food reference for something else so let's say it like that: You are hungry and ordered burger in WcDonald, then they give you 1/3 of a burger because cook went and left his/her job in a middle. Now you have to only pay 1/3 of a price for this unfinished product. Will you blame the cook or the restaurant? Probably both. What I mean that WN could ease up a little on introducing new novels and, at least in a case of translation try to contract another person to finish the job. Just like restaurant would hire a new cook. For original authors I don't really have any good solution :(

          • Lilliny Although I get where you are coming from, but "Spirit Stones are currency in our app" isn't really hard concept, right? :)

            • They just sticked post about it. That it mainly concerns PC users and to check-in on app.

              • Lilliny
Well, that's kind of what I was getting at. They are still two different kinds of fruits.
As for Patreon, you are right but it is simply easier to keep track on app.

                • Tomoyuki How in the heavens Elite and Privilege can be considered to be the same thing? It is like saying that pear is different shaped apple.
Although I don't really like Privilege system, if someone want to spend let them spend, but the only similarities is that you pay for them and they last for month.
So in my opinion. No they didn't respond in any way and ignored us.

                  • Tomoyuki You don't know shit Jon Snow.
You think that you came up with some fresh arguments? No.
Have you read carefully, to check counterarguments or what really pissed of people? Doesn't look like it.
For me personally the most infuriating thing is how the company treats it's clients. When they cancelled, they said something along the lines "We suspend subscription, but we will get back to you" and guess what? They didn't.
They blatantly ignored their customers who in the beginning only wanted to know what is what.
They literally spit in faces of paying customers, and didn't even come out to say "Deal with it".
They simply moved out to other projects, not even bothered to say that they decided to close subscription permanently.
They simply don't give a shit about people.
                    And that's what is infuriating.
Fucking 1500 posts without any answer.
You want to defend that? Be my guest.

                    • It's funny how Webnovel doesn't give a shit about it's readers. Here you have very reasonable proposition but they don't even feel the need to answer it...

                    • Nizze
Actually @Piokilek hasn't use privilege system in his novels, at least until now.
On the other hand, I really can't get demanding as much as 4000 ss per month. If you make it this expensive, just make it permanent. Not mentioning that it would work in sync with subscription, but to make it work you would have to look at things in long term perspective.
And @CKtalon is truly WN employee, as soon as arguments get uncomfortable he decides to simply ignore everything.

                      • Grimhaven
Well you know, it isn't technically illegal. They are just taking advantage of most addicted readers with deep pockets, there is thread somewhere talking about it, but it pretty much died out already.

                      • Grimhaven
Well, you get to pay from 2500 to 4000 ss (depending on novel) to unlock 50 locked chapters and you have privilege to unlock before anyone else. Basically you pay to be able to pay. The duration is one month, meaning you will be 50 chapters ahead for a month.

                        • Piokilek
Although I genuinely enjoy your novel, prices on WN are at this point to high for me. I'm not 100% sure but I think I found Spirit Cultivation thanks to the freedom of choice that subscription gave me.
It is just like Netflix, you can't expect that the moment you implement that system your earnings will skyrocket, on the other hand given time you could see increase in subscribers and most probably in your income. Not mentioning that current privilege system would make a lot more sense paired with elite.
