This morning I got up a whole extra 2 hours early (obviously its the end of the world) meaning I had time to actually brew a nice cuppa tea before work ( and then back to the office to drown myself in earl grey and caffeine )
Today's tea is turmeric tea. Which is a blend of spicey spices, yummy yum, primarily turmeric since it's so vibrant and distinctive. Using Tumeric in anything colors it a vibrant shade of yellow, even if the ground powder may look shades of pale to orange. Use milk for that 'latte' richness- also you really should sweeten this with SOMETHING. It's just odd drinking spices and milk. I like honey
Cafe talks: The first time CC had a Tumeric Latte.
Twas a cold day in Belgium. Why the hell was I in Belgium? Oh god did that actually happen? WTF
Anyways twas a cold January morning in Belgium many a years ago. I had just arrived off one of the earliest trains and then the tram to Ghent. A gorgeous city steeped in history and medieval relics/architecture (as well as some pretty sick fashion shopping). Now as awesome as it would have been to just TOURIST NERD TIME- nothing was open, esp the churches/castles, it was just too early. But that's the perfect time for breakfast.
I led my small group to one of those local organic 'farm to table' communal places I searched up the night before. Very 'fashionable' in the rustic minimalism sort of place. Where the bread, butter and jams came easy and honestly tasted better than anything I could get back home. Hot damn what do they put in their bread? Crack cocaine?
On the menu was something I never seen before- for this was years back and 'Tumeric' lattes had not blown up yet where I'm from. As always- I was the only one brave/dumb enough to keep spontaneously trying new stuff I pass by.
Hot damn it was a terrifying shade of yellow curry in one of those huge artsy thick handmade pottery cups- oh but it was so good. So rich and good and now in the back of my mind when I try drinking turmeric lattes- a piece of me remembers some of God's best bread and Belgium winter mornings.
