CKtalon Will it really reach 3-4 months before you will be able to know whether you pass or not? I hope they tell it to you straight if you didn't pass. Cuz some companies don't. :(

enna It's unlikely...the editor test result comes after 1 month and would not drag more than 2 months at most.

HeavenEarthSage It is not 3 phase more like 3 sections making up the whole test. Each section accounting for a portion of the marks that will be calculated as a total to see if you pass.

People who read many translations on this site should be aware that 'editors' are a lie. They don't exist.

@Nou I want to apply for the editor post, so what should I prepare in advance? I mean, is a resume needed? Also, should I create a discord/QQ/skype account in preparation for these tests? And what was the verdict about the test- are we supposed to just edit directly and send the changed document, or write our suggestions without changing the original text?

I also have queries about the job. It has been implied but I want to confirm that we can work from home.

Another very important question, do editors only work on a single novel or multiple novels? I mean, what kind of workload do they receive when they start out and what about when they gain more experience? I can't imagine earning a living from this job if the workload is less than five chapters a day....even five isn't adequate considering the money they pay. Please let me know as soon as you can.

iluvstorys I mean, is a resume needed

Once you email them, they'll send two documents. The editor test and a questionnaire that asks you about your experiences and your personal details.

iluvstorys Also, should I create a discord/QQ/skype account in preparation for these tests?

They ask for one of these accounts so that they can contact you outside of email in an informal manner.

You're given a document that you must edit. You send the edited document back to them with the questionaire.

iluvstorys Another very important question, do editors only work on a single novel or multiple novels?

They can choose. Although, I think you may have to start off with one novel to ensure that you aren't biting off more than you can chew.

iluvstorys I mean, what kind of workload do they receive when they start out and what about when they gain more experience?

You get paid on the number of chapters you edit, however, if you're the sole editor for a novel, you're responsible for ensuring there aren't a lack of edited chapters.

I guess if you reach a point where you're allowed to edit a ton of novels, you might be able to earn a living from it.

Chrissy Really appreciate the reply. I have been waiting for two weeks now. I'm worrying if previous working experience would be a big factor in getting accepted. (cuz like, I have none O_O)

Writing a post is glitchy as always.

You're in good company....I have no experience either....
At least the reply email containing the application form and test was prompt....I got it within a day of sending my first email.

iluvstorys Yeah, that was really fast. Even turning in my application form and editor's test, I got a reply the next day acknowledging that they have received my application and that they will let me know the results "ASAP". I wish they just wrote that it'll take a month or so. XD

Nou That's improper English. Someone already gave the common version. I would change it to 'I desire to go fishing' based on the feel it seemed you were trying to emit. It's more formal, so it sounds odd to people who only ever speak informally (especially constant slang and downright improper English). When editing, you also have to take notice of the character speaking and their personality, or the setting and certain situations occurring at the time. Certain words and phrasing go better than others at times. Most people don't think of this, even if they're editing or revising as a job

After being added on Discord and getting the introductory 'hi' message, am I supposed to just wait for further contact? It's been a week, and I'd hate to be a bother as I know they're likely very busy, but it's a little nerve-wracking for me.

                        • Nou replied to this.

Schuvi Keep bothering. It's not like a phone-call bothering, but more like a long-queue-of-messages bothering. it should be fine. Bother away.

After three weeks of anticipation, I finally got my results. Sadly, I didn't make it. I will try again next month. But how does that work exactly?

enna Just try a bit harder next time you attempt it. There are way too many applications monthly, probably over 100, and we can only pick a handful of them. As such, the competition is quite intense, and even if some are already good enough to be hired as an editor, they are annexed by those who are better. Anyway, I know someone who tried for a few months before eventually passing. I do suggest practicing editing in other sites or applying for an editor post for your favorite original novel before trying QI's ED test again. That way, you're overall editing skills can improve to a much higher level, and you'll find it easier to pass.

Chrissy I'm very grateful for the advice. _ Thank you.

'Kay, so... There's a three month gap in this thread, so I won't feel bad over my one month necro. I turned my test in on the 25th of May and was informed I had passed on June 11th. Wonderful news. @Sunnnyy contacted me via Discord on the 3rd of July, I replied ten minutes later, and nothing since. Naturally, I've tried to reach Sunny on Discord since. The email-response I received on July 17th, paraphrased, would be "please wait". I don't mind waiting (new volume out next month), but waiting blindly (indefinite hiatus) is terrible. Here I thought passing the test would be the hardest part. orz

                                    Schuvi

I'm in the same boat, sort of -- I applied to be a translator in mid June, and got my results end of July. Gave them my Skype contact but no one got in touch with me. Followed up with them through email and was told someone would contact me by 15th of August. Emailed them again on 14th of August, still waiting for a response...

FWIW, I asked on the Webnovel Discord server and CKTalon said the recruitment team will (most likely) get in touch with me in September. Something about policy changes. I've been posting about it in this thread if you're interested:

                                    https://forum.webnovel.com/d/9532-inquiry-from-a-prospective-translator-editor/

Verulean Definitely. I believe my last email was August 17th, which I have also not received a response to, but it is more or less the same situation. Some information is better than no information, so hopefully I can hear some good news in September as well. If not I'll have to be a bother (which I hate) and see what's up in the Discord server.

                                        3 months later

I'm planning to send an email to officially apply for editor position. Hopefully I pass. Btw, is there a limit on how many times one can try for the position?

Chrissy Hello, I wish to know if i would be sending an email do I really have to use Microsoft Outlook or Gmail and Yahoo would also be fine? Is it also alright to just use codename (daoist name in this site) or real name should be put as signature?

                                            a month later

I kind of applied, but i don't really know if I did the right thing? I sent an email to recruitment@qidian.com, saying:

Hello, I don't really know if this is where I should apply or how, but I am fairly confident with being able to edit for the most part. Please get back to me whenever you are able at this email to let me know how to proceed from here.

                                            Sincerely,

                                            SkyAeon

.... Is that enough, or should I put something else? Or post it elsewhere?

                                              4 months later

Excuse me guys but can someone please tell me what PO3, IMAP & EXCHANGE means? thank you.

Ok........ I wanted to apply too. But after reading many of the posts im not interested anymore. Don't want to wait for weeks or months for a fucking reply, only to have wait again for weeks or months again after turning my test in.
