Hmms, I do believe that there's a few things that are based off assumptions here.

The stats that @Ebu8b gave off about the distribution amount for Premium Novels isnt a fact, right? Im supposing you heard this off the grapevine?

@Vladimir @Xans98 Have you guys tried pinging out webnovel's account and the translators themselves under the report tab? I'm not insinuating anything by asking this question by the way! I dont surf this forum much so I'm not sure if you've done so before, that's all!

Velixar I think your comment has been clarified in a recent comment by CK. But yeah, I would say that some of us probably feel a little disappointed over cancellation of Patreon. But please bear in mind that Patreon itself was offered as a goodwill gesture by Qidian after they've already been paying for us out of their own pockets to provide these translations. As a company, they have to be profitable in order to sustain in the long term as well, right? I'm sure that if you're in their position, you would need to be breaking even at least to sustain rather than taking a loss, right? I hope I dont come across as aggressive, but words have no emotions and I'm just stating the facts as I know them, so I hope you dont take it to heart.

While I do agree with you guys that there should be a stringent adherence to release rates, I believe that Qidian is working hard on making this a requirement as well. They are weeding out those novels that are falling way below the required rate and I believe that CK has mentioned that they would be taking further action starting from this year as well. Shall we wait and see if things improve?

If there's any particular novel in particular, you guys can ping both the TLs and webnovel's accounts together to try to bring some light to the matter.

But there's a whole bunch of us who are working really hard to provide and ensure that our translations are at least on a 'decent' level even if it cant be compared to @Ebu8b's standards. So, give us some time and your constructive suggestion the way our TS is! Cheers!

Barewolf gave off about the distribution amount for Premium Novels isnt a fact, right?

Got these number a month ago on reddit, but forgot who it was. Could you as a translator correct me with the real numbers or is it a company secret?

Barewolf on a 'decent' level even if it cant be compared to Ebu8b's standards.

I am actually okay with most ts. Me saying that they need better people was for the scenario when the translation is worse than a fan translation. But a few ts really need a second proofreader.

    Barewolf suggestion

How about giving readers, who took a quality test, the position of a proofreader (reading ahead and maybe a few SS as the payment).

NormalRanked Something like that. The problem is that a large portion of whet translators make is from Patreon. But now Qidian is forcing them to stop using it and do their premium system, which hurts the translator.

Velixar as far as i can see though they are still able to receive support thorough paetron just not do advanced chapters unless I'm seeing wrong.

Ebu8b Got these number a month ago on reddit, but forgot who it was. Could you as a translator correct me with the real numbers or is it a company secret?

There's no real numbers because nothing is profitable just yet. Do bear in mind that QD is actually bleeding money to bring out these services with the risk chance that they may never get anything in return.

Ebu8b I am actually okay with most ts. Me saying that they need better people was for the scenario when the translation is worse than a fan translation. But a few ts really need a second proofreader.

Ebu8b My opinion: The only translator who is on even terms with Deathblade is Cktalon. Other competitors in for high quality translation are non-existent.

Well, my remark above was in reply to this comment. If you've got gripes with specific TLs / Novels, please tag/name them along with the webnovel's main account. I'm just saying that there's a whole bunch of us who are actually putting in hard work and effort to produce these 'Non-existent high quality translations' in your opinion. But then again, you're welcome to your opinion, but I just felt like I had to make the case that while there are a small number of black sheep, there is another side to that same picture.

Ebu8b How about giving readers, who took a quality test, the position of a proofreader (reading ahead and maybe a few SS as the payment).

Absolutely wonderful idea imo. Anything that's community based can reach a common consensus through statistics. I'm agreeable with it. Do tag webnovel and raise your suggestions to them. I'm not involved with the backend of the site! Cheers!

Velixar Something like that. The problem is that a large portion of whet translators make is from Patreon. But now Qidian is forcing them to stop using it and do their premium system, which hurts the translator.

Patreon was extended as a goodwill gesture by Qidian. Qidian could have disallowed the use of Patreon from the very beginning. I guess that would have solved the issue right? Since you've got nothing to 'take away' if it isnt there from the beginning.
As a TL that's affected by the drop in earnings as well, I think my standpoint is pretty fair since I'm being affected by it personally. But I don't think the flak should just be tossed at Qidian for no reason at all.

            1. Add more ads. Click an ad to read a chapter. I dunno the right amount but it could be alot more than now.

            2. Add a premium ad free upgrade for 3.99 dollars a month. Extra benefits of getting 3.99 worth of SS a month too. Ok

Barewolf Patreon existed before Qidian. And your whole argument just reeks of control freakism

HikariMe No problem... if you encounter any problem in the site just ask many people here will answer

Velixar Well you can say that but the novels and their copyrights belongs to Qidian. Patreon was available for fan translations to earn their keeps. Qidian pays for translators to translate their works, they've got the rights to earn from it. They gave off Patreon as a goodwill gesture and now they're getting flak for moving it inhouse. Soooooo, right. We're talking about ownership and rights here, nothing to do with control and the likes. Even less to do with the timeline of existences. Sooooooo. Yeah.

Bro, as much as you're concerned for the rights of our translators, WE as translators ourselves will fight for our own rights as well. C'mon. If all of us are really being hurt that badly by it, WE would know, right? WE do have our own discussion groups and Qidian has been actively communicating openly to us regarding any changes. If things are really that bad, all of US would have boycotted this hands down, dont you think so? Soooooooo, that's how the cookie crumbles, bro! Cheers!

Barewolf Very well said sir! It's true that if translators got cornered they will fight back.

Barewolf Very well said sir! Keep up the good work translator-sama. I'm sure your hard work will pay off!

Barewolf Well, aside from translators rights, I’ve alter to see any benefit to the readers. At the current rate, a lot of novels will be completely behind a paywall.

Velixar They're losing money paying folks up front. Other folks may not have an issue because they don't pay folks up front. The benefit to readers if this works it allows QI to continue operating and maybe expand. Maybe even attract and continue to improve upon the translators they have.
