Just like the title says, what are some of the most memorable action scenes you've come across in reading. I'd also love to hear some suggestions of what people focus on when writing them (if you do). Whether it's emotion, feeling, visualization — It's very hard to contribute all these things with words to the reader.
I just finished writing an action scene that spans over the course of two chapters. I can visualize it easily (because I'm the one writing) but I have no idea how the reader might feel. The reader isn't in my head, so if anyone has any suggestions on how I can visualize the scene to the greatest extent I would love to hear some suggestions.

Also, what do you look for in action scenes? What is the most important part of it? For me: Its the thrill. Action scenes should be memorable and touching. Putting an action scene in every chapter seems like it would be overkill and unfun to read (I've never come across a story that does that, but I'm guessing there are plenty.)

Just some thoughts and questions I've been thinking.. IDK 🧐

Snowin For me.. action scene must have a reason before it happens.

If the action is based on the characters training and sparing, you don't have to go into detail that much until it took most of the chapter. Unless, there is some forshadowing inside. There might be something important that you want to show inside this scene.

For the fight that based on emotion. Like a fight for revenge. You want to show the MC emotion. You can get into the details of the MC. This way, we can understand the MC/or the characters reasons to do so. How

MC keep screaming while punching the face of the person who killed MC love one. Yet, that person under him still dared to laugh.
He keep punching and punching even after his hands starts bleeding. He didn't stop even if the person's face start to swallow. Bla bla...

    Please fix the paragraph above.

And lastly, the war arc/ final arc.

You want to show the readers the situation around. The situation of war. The disaster that was caused by the war. The emotion of all the soldiers and all the characters.

I've never write an action scene plus emotional scene before. But, I would love to learn.

Snowin Oh wow!! I never thought my tips would be helpful!!! Now, I'm happy!!!

      Snowin

For visualization, I usually write a draft, do my usual thing and come back to read it again a week later. By doing this, I could read what I wrote in the perspective of a reader (because at that point, I forgot what I wrote.). It helped me see through the flaws and correct them appropriately.

If you have friends who read, you could ask them to read it and ask their opinions. I don't have friends so I just do the former advice.

Kronoos That's actually pretty interesting. I've never thought about actually writing something and then coming back to it later (later as in > forgetting most parts of what I wrote). Definitely gonna have to give that one a shot, thank you.

Oh, and to best rransition into a fighting scene, you should build tension to the point that the readers can't handle it and then initiate the scene.

To do this, you should buff up the enemy through the crowds or by using MC's friends. You should also inform the readers that his enemy isn't just some country bumpkin that recently learned how to fight.

Additionally, if possible, you should also increase the risk via a bet or something. By doing this, not only does it increase the tension, you also indirectly told the reader that your MC is pretty gutsy. It doesn't matter what type the bet is — Sect position, weapon, cultivation manual...— as long as it has high value and it is something that even the readers are reluctant to let go of.

Fight scenes are too much booring as a reader I skip those chapters where
He slammed, he kicked . He parried that one attack...,..... Goes on
I simply check the results, who won
Authors put summary there most of the time.
Action is good on TV , when written it feels confusing and booring
These are my personal opinion may vary person to person

Writing a action scene is hard because writing isn't visual the reader can't see what happens so you have to pretend you are there and you are narrating what is happening but this gets boring fast for most so a good technique is to explain how the characters are fighting not the exact moves they are doing
          For example:
Dave knew he didn't have the strength left to break through Jeff's attacks so he tries to adopt a defense to not be overwhelmed by Jeff's rapid and wild attacks

heyitsbluejay i've actually used something like that before and I think it turned out pretty well. but yes, explaining rather than focusing on every move us usually always better!

              Kronoos Yes ,Tension!
Tension is the only thing I try focusing on when building up to fight scenes. Obviously I can see what's happening in my head, but the reader doesn't. One of my biggest struggles is trying to make the reader feel what I am feeling. Only thing I can do is just try to get better at writing and of course, use some nicks and nacks there and here with some things like you mentioned!
