Hey, so just wanted to know what the typical word count for fantasy stories on this site is. More specifically, fantasy/adventure.

I read that ~1,500 is the standard for a lot of the romance stories, but saw that people were also saying fantasy should be higher than that. Though, nobody really gave that one an average like they did for other genres.

So, just curious what the fans of fantasy/adventure web novels would prefer the chapter length to be. Also, in case you’re wondering, I have already written my story without really paying much mind to word count. However, since I saw that a lot of the stories on here are in that ~1,500 range, I just want to know if mine wouldn’t feel too long to people.

The first chapter for example is about 2K words. Would that be too long? Or would it be reasonable for the genre it’s in? Or would it perhaps be too short?

I think lengthy chapters are a waste. They're usually unnecessarily wordy and lose good opportunities for cliffhangers. Although 1,500 8s the average and recommended, 1,200 up to 1,600 is the best. Lengthy chapters are tiresome, IMO.

Depends on your writing style and what you're comfortable with- but if you're posting 500word and under chapters, that's just sad. A ripoff.

But it really depends on your personal style and what readers have come to expect from you. Your own personal brand. If you post 500words a day and ppl still show up then cool, great, good for you. But like another user said that minimun is generally accepted 800-1500words

For fantasy? I honestly expect a higher word count otherwise how do you establish flow and your world?

It really dependws on the author and audience preference. Some may prefer short but If I post anything under 4k my readers are gonna notice and riot.
