Cytric 30 chapters is too much. Generally 5 chapters is enough in most cases.
The novel review system sucks
Many reviews are useless. They didnt seriously read novel before but want some xp.
I see many reviews gave 5 star with a crap comment like "this novel is really good" or "I like this novel" blah blah blah...
It make over-rate reviews although some novels are really bad.
Yeah, people can give multiple good review just to bump the star.
But once you use it to bring down the star, it's a spam, your account are banned to comment, then your post is deleted.

Not always, some have plot twists, or they're the type of books to start gradually and get better and you go along. Maybe 30 is a lot, 20 or 15 seems more like it.
tbh, as long as the content of review is relevant, i dont mind if its only 1 or less than 10 chapter read by the reviewer. the thing is, the review section are totally littered with 0 chapter read plus unrelevant content. also there are some flaming the totally relevant review just because the reviewer said write something bad about the novel.
not to mention powet voting are rigged, i totally will go to nu if i just want to see the review.
zerodissolver
Qidian system is skewed, people can give review as long they got id, no reading required, and multiple review is totally fine, as long its a good review.
Cytric yeah.. pre review before the novel is release, should be done by the working translator and editor. And their review should be pinned at the top and swipe-able to save space.. as for the early reviews, it can be made that only readers with 5 chapters read, would be able to post them. This can be a good start for a better review system.
zerodissolver even at NU star set up is useless. reviews are helpful in cases where person lays out his reasoning and reactions. unfortunately many of reviews at NU do not do it. still better than here.
GregLuck I agree, my review never even appeared in the reviews. But thats not the only issue here. Comments are been deleted as well. I had a question concerning IRAS:
I asked a question in the comment section but it disappeared ( literrally deleted, I checked) only a couple of seconds later !!! So, I wanted to ask this to the translator : Is this STOLEN form wuxiaworld ? Cuz this novel has been on wuxia for a very long time... AND, the fact that wuxiaworld is a BANNED word on your website really doesn't help with the guilty look here...
The fact that you delete my messages is also quite guilty-looking...
is this another greg's clone, how come couple of posts got the same topic at the same day lol
100magikarp i said in most cases not all

Chinese novel usually has more than 500 chapters, 30 is not really a lot. Also, with 5 chapters you will basically not know anything about the story, so you will not be doing a proper review about that book, but giving your personal opinion about what you've seen in those few chapters and what you think is going to happen.

What you said complement what I have said above.
Autarch_GRIM Nope. Editor and Translator should be forbidden of doing that. We can not forget that this is a job and it involves money, a lot of money.

dude, my only clone is mambojumbo, which I make because I can't comment on the site, only able to open the forum.
Personally I do not think you should be able to leave more than one review for a novel subsequent reviews written should replace previous ones as you are then more informed. be
Cytric oh.. pardon me, can you elaborate more on that bro? Why is it inappropriate? I honestly, dont understand.
Cytric I think that is not a good argument. You dont need to know the story in order to figure out how capable the author is and the QUALITY of the work. In an analogy, a weeding cake can have tens of kilos, but you only need to taste a fee grams to know if it's delicious or not.
Autarch_GRIM
Translators and editors already have a word that weighs more than ordinary members, in a scenario that only they would be able to make reviews on a book being voted to be released or not, it could create hype, inflate the popularity of that book with a review biased and thus undermine the voting that should be unbiased. As translators/editors gain according to the popularity of his books, it would not be rare cases like that.

The problem is that we are talking about a review and not an opinion. In a review you should specifically talk about a novel and what happens in it, not what you think will happen. True that with five chapters you can measure the quality of the translation and how well the author writes, but only that. How are you going to do a review with these two items only? Or is there any novel that makes an excellent story, character and world-building development in the first 5 chapters and keeps that for the rest of the story?
ShouldBeStudying I have read books where the plots sounded really interesting at first but fell off after chapter 50+, or books that started poorly but had really great arcs around chap 100+
What's happening?
