Dalton_Reutlinger I completely agree with you.
I’ve been noticing a trend recently where readers feel the need to express their enthusiasm by demanding that I “must update quicker” or “need to start releasing chapters already”, and “can’t drop a story”.
Personally, I find the above mentioned demands incredibly disrespectful; authors are not content machines. We don’t owe it to anyone to create anything. Furthermore, I have much more going on in my live and often don’t have time to write daily or even weekly. I am a full-time university student and coach children trice a week.
I write because of my own desire to practice and improve my English, and the experience is soured whenever readers feel entitled to snap their fingers and demand more content. It’s disrespectful, and in my own personal experience, it repels me from writing.
I would love to see everything become more civil. Readers are under no obligation to read or follow my stories, and, in retrospect, I have no obligations to create content either. Certainly since I do it for free. I am pleased to hear when readers take an interest, but I would like them to understand that will never feel obligated to give them more content, no matter how much it is demanded of me.
Edit: upon revisiting this comment, it seems like I let my emotions get the better of me. My apologies if it has become too much of a rant. I am very glad, however, that I could share my thoughts on this topic.
