I find people often have to have their protagonist humans or human like(elf, ect) is it necessary for them to be? Is it because morals, feelings, etc?
How come the protagonist has to be human ?

Not every book has a human protagonist. Your protagonist can be whatever or whoever you want it to be.
But you see it more time than not because I believe some people find it easier to write about it since we are humans.

Surprisingly, we only have human readers on this site, so writing human characters helps since they can relate better to them. Humanoids (elves, dwarves, hobbits, orcs, etc) also work, too. It's far easier to write characters from viewpoints that you understand (as a human) and others that you can approximate with good certainty (fantasy humanoids). After all, they're all reskinned humans with some superficial tweaks.
But there are plenty of stories that subvert this and have protagonists and characters that are far out of left field (viruses, snails, sticks of wood, sea urchins...) and those stories do well enough from what I've seen.
In the end, it's not the nature of your content that matters, but rather your execution. If you're a pro writer, you can work with just about anything and still make it highly engaging.
None_None_1744 There are some pretty good books with non-human MC
Chrysalis: An Ant MC
I Reincarnated as a Stick: A Stick MC
Who Said Mosquitoes can't cultivate: A Mosquito MC
I hate how people give a non human(slime, ect, not reincaeinater) human morals. i just find it weird how Monster mc ends up with human morals.
None_None_1744 Not really. This book is excellent and the protagonist is a cat.
As along as the reader can empathize with the protagonist, they can be whatever form.
@Misguided_Rooster come out. You summoned meee
None_None_1744 so what human morals bother you the most?
I think all morals had some reason for coming into existence, so eventually with more beings at a higher conscience in conditions where survival is not guaranteed, most "human" morals would likely exist.
And anywho, if you really want a MC who isn't "human-like" in any aspect, you can always write one yourself and share with the class.
KoraL I hate soft monster protagonist who don't want to kill and they end up in bad situations.
It just doesn't make sense when they get the moral of not killing.
