  • Why doesn't the webnovel app have a section to copy select text

Alot of writers in webnovel use links to other sites or picture for better understanding of the novel for the readers. Why doesn't the app have a small section where the author can put down the links that the readers can copy? I know that the ability to select and copy text is removed so people dont just copy the entire novel, but right now all readers must either type in the entire link or just forget about it, which is pretty bad. I thought it would be pretty good if this was added for the app so the readers can copy the links atleast

First time posting so idk where I must post if I have suggestions and what tags I must use so please bear with me.

Bump this up, I agree with it 100%. There are certain scenes that I write which is inspired by media. I also post songs that I think play really well into a scene (like how there's always background music playing on a show during a dramatic scene) but most readers don't even pay attention to it on this platform

This would be abused by aggregator sites.

While some has been capable of working around the non-copying aspect, others have not. If it was able to copy the text, then there would be many more aggregator sites, and many would no longer pay to read what they enjoy. When no one pays, the translation/writing will be stopped, as the author/translator will not be able to go on.

It is a bad spiral for the entire industry, so while it is somewhat frustrating being unable to copy text, it is better than not having any text to read.

Tinalynge I think the suggestion was to include a small section that could be copied. Like a special box just for links. Everything else would remain protected against copying.

Any form of links would be abused by spammers or 'writers' redirecting to things they shouldn't.

Tinalynge I mentioned that it could be a small section, for example like the authors note section at the end(talking about how it could be not that they should replace the authors note with it). Just limiting the copyable section to a small part/box would be enough.

My worry is, that if a part of the text is copyable, then they might just make bots which will then copy a part each, and eventually add it together.

It makes sense that one could maybe copy the author note, as that one would not matter much, or the comments.

HinataPerolada true but that's a risk anytime even when they comment in the chapters or paragraphs. I mean there's a bad side to most everything, anyways I don't think webnovel would actually do it so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don't think wn is sophisticated enough to only have one part copy able. It's all or nothing. Despite the no copy script, books still end up being scrapped to pirate sites.

Tinalynge I mean it's really impossible to stop the piracy without captchas and paywalls everywhere. I'm pretty sure that even with my limited programming ability, I could set up something in a few hours to scrape the "protected" data with some free tools. The current anti-copying/screenshot measures really only slow down the laziest of pirates. The proof is privilege chapters being available on pirate sites.
Having the authors' note or a link-box being copyable, might even slow things down for the especially lazy pirates. Any attempt to copy anything could simply aggressively load the links into the clipboard.
As for spammers, phishers, and con artists... hopefully they will be easily identified by the lack of story and people won't be trying to go to those links anyways. Even if the links are more easily copied, it doesn't necessarily need to be a direct hyperlink.

Actually you don't even need to do that, most aggregator sites use the browser version to steal chapters and not the app. Yeah, you can copy paste from the computer, at least I was able to select a part of my story when I tested it. And you're right, the suggestion here would do little to stop or advance this pirating, but it would be helpful for the readers
