I'm new here and my one and only question is why do most of these stories have 100+ chapters? Like why?!

Well for me it's because I'm on my 13th volume of release (17th in writing progress), though I'll be finishing up my series by the 18th volume. It's not just one book, but rather an entire series of books under one title.

Well more they get paid by the character (word) so its developed its own genre and become an art form that takes the simplest scene setting and stretching it across ten chapters as the flash backs, repeated descriptions, renaming of every character involved and how they came to be in the situation is drawn out from a simple paragraph to encompassing half the arc..

I mean some books I've read have taken half a dozen chapters just to get through meeting up with an old school friend and having a drink.

If Netflix series has plenty of seasons then why not stories here? Besides, every word does count so describing a journey can truly take 10 chapters or more.

It's because the readers on Webnovel (and Webnovel itself) prefer a system where authors upload daily.

But it's unrealistic for an author to post a whole arc of 10k to 20k words daily, so we have to divide them up into tiny pieces (1.5k-2.5k words) and upload them like that.

It is def possible for us to write maybe 10k-20k words every week and post them like that, but I suppose readers didn't like that as much as they liked daily uploads.

Also, personally, having to post daily keeps me pressured to write a lot, so, idk.

Because this is an adapted form, and where it is from, people pay their bills doing this. So, popular stories tend to have 100s, if not 1000s of chapters. Sometimes, it's a true magnum opus, but often it falls apart towards the end or just end abruptly because the author wants to move on to the next story!
