If your story gains enough traction and gets noticed by an editor you can be contracted. That's what happened to me and although I make little money the biggest authors I heard can make like up too 100k a year. Crazy man...

To get a contract you have to have a minimum of 4000 words posted in a story (and that's just to be considered.)
