  • [unknown] Authors don't make money from fast passes. Webnovel don't make money from fastpasses.

Without income, authors can't write because they have to have other jobs.

I'm curious if you would be willing to work for free, or think that I should work the 60 hours per week that I do for giggles?

    • [unknown] The same code change that stopped your fast passes also stopped the pirates from being able to download the chapters, so... good luck with that.

    • Mozi_follower You're eating your own. The more our books get pirated, the less we earn, the less we can write. Soon enough you won't have any quality books because authors will have to get other jobs to stay alive.

I'm curious. would you expect to work for free?

      • [unknown] Authors ONLY earn when chapters are unlocked with coins.

And for the record, the percentages WN take are LOWER than a traditional publisher whose book you buy in a bookstore or on Amazon.

      • CacackleLasson I can't tell you what drives the choice, but I can say that it is a statistical fact on WN and Amazon, that the vast majority of BL romance readers are heterosexual people who menstruate.

        • Leon_XIV I heard this week that it's to do with not every book being eligible for prizes due to needing contracts (which have restrictions) and also that you have to publish 100,000 words. So they will wait until some are passing those milestones to start making a list, I think?

I don't know if this is accurate, but it sounds plausible.

          • SrtaA According to authors who've gotten it, it's INCREDIBLY profitable.

I think we, as authors, look at these things very differently than pure readers do. We're analyzing for our own business. They're just shopping.

            • Zero_Things Yeah, I suggested this to them in a feedback survey. I doubt they'll do it, though, because all those authors currently writing 1500 words per day and paying for coins to buy each other's priv with alt accounts will stop. Which means they'll be out of money

                • SrtaA Do you have an android phone? I do and I do'nt get this either. But others showed me the tag the other day that they can see. It's a grey bar where you usually see stats and just says "WSA2020"

I'm wondering if it only shows on iOS

                  • Tomoyuki Webnovel is a VERY different system and audience to what most are used to. As someone who's been in publishing a long time I can tell you had I to learn a great deal and change approaches in order to find my audience on Webnovel. So I suspect it wasn't that your advice was bad, but that people were pointing out that knowing the right approaches in Webnovel is different. Sounds like they didn't phase that very nicely. Sorry to hear that. But as someone who joined last year I can tell you the authors are very helpful and generous with advice and assistance. Yes, there will be some frank discussions, but on balance, most authors on WN are great.

                    • darcyjog I didn't bot in a comp and still got a gold. The editors are looking at content when they judge. But I think for Spirity it would harder to see who used botting to get ahead early, then that got them the exposure they needed to pull real readers. That's what worries me--not that real books wo'nt get noticed at all, but that botted books take up time and space that stop good books from getting noticed early. In the end, a botted book makes no money so won't stick around a long time. it's when good content is botted as well that there's aproblem.

                    • Sounds like a trope, but it's not...
