Hi,I started writing recently and have slowly began to gather views. I'm just curious about how my seniors and the other successive authors did when starting out or was everyone like the author of 'My Vampire System'?

BronzeColt My views were 0 when I started writing, and I never bothered to improve it.
I don't get the obsession with views. I always assume mine is 0, and I couldn't be bothered to check my views. Why should I? Like, just write the story you want to write. Who cares? I understand that you want somebody to read what you've written, but you didn't write to be popular, did you?

Tomoyuki That's true.I started writing because I wanted to let me story go out there. Still,it feels like a critical strike whenever you don't see many views lol

0 before I went and advertised on the ad thread, I do review swaps to get proper critics and that adds views, I now have people or a person in the least reading my novel when I update my novels.
I don't expect millions of views though since there are many great novels that are able to dwarf mine in response and i also write for fun.
Also system novels gain views easier, I have a system novel and it gained views faster than my horror one.

My views were pretty low but then i changed my cover to something more colourful and it got more views because of it. A shiny new cover always helps 🙂 also try posting more and promoting on the forum and the views will come

          Personal opinion:

          Review swap thread
          Promotion thread
          Facebook Author Page
          Instagram
Writers groups on FB and other social medias
          Discord

I also HIGHLY SUGGEST constantly going in and re-reading/editing your story. I swear every time I read a chapter I find something I missed. Whether is be a grammatical error, sentence structure error, plot hole, etc..

Plus it can always lead to a new idea, or help cover a detail you might’ve skipped over while writing. I hope this helps😁

I've been ass kicked a lot when it comes to my writing. The past 15 years allowed me to evolve, a lot, from long sentences to something more precise.
Firstly, because I am soon to be published, in France, and the advice I got from my Editor really applies to any language.
Secondly, because the more I read, the more ideas I got about how to set a scene.

If I had to give a few advices here, they would be as follow:
          - Choose the right words. Use a dictionnary if need be, and the synonyms dictionnary as well. Repetitions look bad, and when you look for an equivalent, you will find tones that might give more ideas.
          - Always proofread with a proper software.
          - Be mindful of tense consistency. Really ! Past tense doesn't mingle with present tense. It looks unprofessional and confuses the reader.
          - Write in scenes, not like a river. This is, I think, the most important one. What do I mean ? Many, many writers write like they would recount a synopsis. Meaning a lot is happening, without many details or descriptions, and you feel like you're reading a script. There's no way for the reader to identify to the main characters or even feel they are sucked into the novel.
Writing in scenes means that you introduce 'strong moments'. You can concentrate on that moment, describe the place and fell, the smells and weather, people, and the mood.
When writing like this, you are short circuiting some inportant info from your synopsis. It doesn't mattern you can add them as dreams, inner musings or flashbacks.
This principle is called 'show, don't tell'.
Books with 'explanations' don't capture interest. If you want to give information it has to be relevant to your characters. A dialogue can work, a memory, anything, reall, as long as it is part of your character's life.

-> in the first chapter, Frances thinks about her deceased grand mother with an internal point of view.

As for views... review swaps, yes, but they can be painful especially as I read the whole of it ! Believe in your work, and never be afraid to get back to it years afterwards. The more you write, the more your read, the more you evolve.

          I hope this helps :)

I'm sorry, I realise I was a but off topic. I hope it will still catch your interest :)
