I seriously don't understand why the review system doesn't get updated, it doesn't have any sense:
1) You shouldn't be able to review a novel if you didn't read at least some chapters. There are a lot of people who review the novel based on the cover or the plot, that's not how it should be.
2) You should be able to see the chapter the reviewer reached at the time of the review, so you can just skip those who read like 2 chapters
3) You shouldn't be able to give multiple reviews. I understand that the opinion can change based on the chapters read, but it should have some limitations. I was reading a novel (I'm not giving the name to not spread hate), at first, I thought it should have been quite good to have 841 reviews and a score of 4.69, but if you check the most liked reviews they are all 1, 2 stars... Then what is going on? If you go in the "new reviews" you can see pages upon pages of reviews by a single user. I can understand that maybe he/she likes the novel and want to give support, but it's not right that a single user can change the score like that. (I will post a screenshot below)
4) There should be something like a graph where you can see the number of "1-star" reviews, "2-star" reviews, etc.

And there are entire pages like that.

Reviews serve as an ego booster for some authors, if a book gets less than 4.5 stars then it is the worst book on Webnovel and the author must be extremely untalented even if those reviews come from legit readers without the author attempting to flood the book with manufactured reviews. I get if a book is new and the author wants to gain views by leaving reviews on their book in the initial stage (since most readers bypass books with no reviews) and later going on to delete those reviews after readers start dropping reviews on that book but there are authors that take theirs to the extreme and flood their book with reviews while taking jabs at others that involve in the same practice. Plot holes and or grammar issues does not necessarily mean that the author in question is bad at writing, kindness can go a long way in bringing out the best in others.

Isn't it ironic that in this kind of discussion a bot, "LaurenChan", appears advertising a scam? The feeling I get is that Webnovel doesn't care much about the details of their operation, being it the reviews, abandoned novels, and that's why I decided I'll never spend a single cent in Webnovel until they fix those.

DeeJack That is actually some really great suggestions! I would also like an option where if I reviewed a book, I would not be able to post again, only reply to it. I am old and sometimes I forget if I reviewed already or not hahaha

I also hate how the rating is broken up into different sections. And not even well broken up. So the overall rating ends up not what I want to give it without skewing some of the numbers. Like how update frequency is a section. So a book that isn't very good but updates daily will end up with a higher rating than I wanted. Or conversely a really good book with a discontinued translation that I'm trying to get picked up again can't be given 5 stars unless I fudge the update frequency part.

Yeap, I entirely agree with you. I hope this thread gets pinned. Readers shouldn't be able to review a book more than once.

    Great suggestions by the way.

Asking Webnovel to fix something that isn’t horrendously broken or stopping them making money is an exercise in futility.

The review system is fundamentally broken. People give one stars because their novel wasn’t picked or for fun. A bunch of people give 5 stars for the exp. Some authors delete most/all of their sub-4 star reviews. Almost nothing about the final number can be trusted tbh. The majority of the ‘top ten’ for example don’t deserve that spot.
