Broadly, there are a few ways you can promote your book.
Every month, on the forum you can find two pinned threads, "Shameless Promotion Thread" where you can self-promote your book to the forum readers.
The second pinned thread is the 'Review Swap' where you exchange reviews with other Webnovel authors to eventually get a rating as readers give huge importance to the rating of a book.
There is also the Power Stone system.
Basically, when your book reaches 4k words and is approved by the staff people can start sending you power stones which puts your book higher on the Power Stone ranking and makes it easier for new readers to find your book.
Other ways you can promote your book by yourself include telling your friends.
Oh, and please don't spam your book on the forum, read the forum rules in the pinned thread before engaging in any discussion.
Aditionally, if you become a contracted author then Qidian will also promote your book.

DaoistlK9om3 As for the writing settings, you essentially have three variables in Inkstone for your book, which are 'view count'(It is honestly not very important since it can easily be increased), 'collections' which is the number of people that have added your book to their library and 'power stones' which I explained earlier.

Venusean Thank you for the helpful explanation. I have another question. Some chapters are free and the rest of the chapters have to be unlocked. So does the author select from which chapter he/she wants to lock? And if they do, then how?
