Yeah, it's sad knowing that there are a lot of authors with potential but they're either not on here or they ruined their novels because of greed.
Just gonna have to scour the internet for similar sites that do things better.
Happy_AltRight 100% agree. LoM was way way better than like 98% of the novels on here, but it had several problems as well. And the new book by the author is sooo so so so so boring.
Minapyon That scarecrow novel is horror themed. The translation is not the best, but at least on a higher standard than the MTLs they normaly spam.
Minapyon Suggestions:
1. Option to exclude certain tags or themes in our interests. This ensures I don't get annoying popups with stories I don't like every single time I log in.
2. Rankings based on genres (with option to exclude tags). So I can easily browse horror and fantasy stories that don't follow system or cultivation tropes.
3. More promotions for stories not with system tropes please.
To add to this, there's a reading site for published books (The StoryGraph) that uses this exact system. When you sign up, you pick your favorite genres / tags, as well as the ones that you never want to see. It has offered me the most accurate recommendations out of any other site I have ever used and it has led me to buying more new books than any other one trying to shove popular things I'm not interested in down my throat (looking at you, Amazon). It would also solve a problem for anyone wanting to read books in both Male and Female leading genres; they wouldn't have to keep switching it in their preferences.
Changing the search system to implement this would also be beneficial.
I've been talking to a lot of people outside of Webnovel while self-promoting and a lot of them have told me the same thing: that they stopped using the site because it only promotes things they're not interested in and the search system doesn't help in finding them, other. Having something like this in our account settings would help a lot with calling a wider public to the website and so would improving the search system.
Anyone reading this, if you have horror or dark fantasy novels, without those tropes, drop your recommendations below.

I have a recommendation, I'm currently writing one.
I'm not sure how I feel about the whole review swap/self promotion thing, I don't think I'm ready for those yet. An extreme introvert here...
But, this frustration of: all the webnovels are cultivation/system/harem/isekai/reincarnation novels is something that resonate with me. Nothing against those stories, I read them too, but I can relate to the need of something "different" that's why I decided to write my own thing.
I guess I'm using this thread to bite the bullet and write something in this forum instead of just lurking.
Also, not going to lie, my magic system is lightly inspired by cultivation system. But I made my own thing there, and it's very different.
It's a dark fantasy, in its own original high fantasy world with made up politics and religions, its own magic system with magical languages and different elements. It's packed with action, psychology, and tragic scenes.
Keep three things in mind:
1: the content there contains everything the darkside of humanity can conjure. (content warning)
2: characters die randomly and fast, at first it's characters you won't care for, but later on it'll be important characters too.
3: I may only have 41 chapters atm, but each chapter is 5k words on average, they're really long.

Hope I'm not crossing any rule with this... but you did ask to drop recommendations.
Minapyon I pitched these filters ages ago. They won't do it. They want money, that's what each update is about. Not refining their search algorithms to ensure we actually find what we like.
I mostly read on the fanfiction app these days, it's a lot better now that it has been optimised for usability.
Unfortunately they don't have original novels like here but atleast you don't have to wade through the trash that only posted 1 chapter weeks ago and never again.
When it comes to the novel tabs tough it's really a hopeless endeavour. The best you can hope for is filtering on recently updated based on your search results with the tags...

True most of the very popular novels are highly overrated.
And some good novels are being overlooked.
Google pays 390$ reliably. My last paycheck was $55000 working 10 hours out of consistently on the web. My increasingly youthful kinfolk mate has been averaging 20k all through continuous months and he works around 24 hours reliably. I can't trust how direct it was once I attempted it out.
