N0xiety A truly evil antagonists harms the truly innocent for benefits. Leylin has done evil, so has Fang as well. Being evil isn't wrong, as evil is merely a baseline for your actions instead of the be all end all of them. The basic choice for an evil MC would then be one who chooses the crueler of two options just because the outcome and benefit would be the same, IE I could buy an ice cream or snatch it from a little kid when nobody is looking and walk away. Both are equal in terms of effort and benefit, and the costs are negligible, an evil MC would 10/10 snatch the ice cream. unless he didn't feel like it.

Leylin_Farlier Hmm, choosing the more cruel option doesn't always make one evil tho. For example, the protagonist of Everybody Loves Large Chests is way more cruel than Leylin, but i would say 'it' is more in the lines of chaotic allignment. It may destroy towns, cause the death of thousands or eat whole villages, tho that still doesn't really make it evil...

On the topic of Leylin, he wouldn't snatch an icecream if he can afford to buy it even if it meant equal or better outcome. He doesn't really do petty stuff. Petty stuff i'm talking about means that if Leylin can afford something, he doesn't go out of his way to snatch it even if it is something valuable to others. Also, what is 'truly innocent'? Just holding onto something might make you guilty, just like how you would be guilty if you were to hold onto, transport or sell jade as a commoner in ancient china. All jade belongs to the emperor, commoners aren't allowed, your head would fly for that offense! Innocence is just a matter of perspective. If i say you are innocent, then you are innocent, but if i say you are guilty because of holding that icecream, then you are guilty. So doesn't that mean Leylin is completely just in his actions?

Sythcake Btw if you really want cruel protagonist, read Everybody Loves Large Chests...

N0xiety I’m talking srs evil.. So basically, an irredeemable asshole that has no sob story background to justify his cruelness, no bullshit moral boundaries along the lines of I’m cruel and all but won’t hurt woman and children, no doing bad things for the greater good, no dog eat dog world where the mc is forced to be cruel by the circumstances or in short, no to the usual cliches and tropes of your every other antihero protagonist

A great example of what I’m lookin for https://villainousintent.wordpress.com/2013/01/27/and-introducing/ or at least the first half of the story, later the author decided to ruin his story with certain cliches

lol, good and evil just a matter of perspective, just like coin. If you think what leylin dude do same on the way you think, so it is good, but otherwise it is evil.
Ex; on mountain edge city, women with long leg ugly, but because lu sheng ( mc wae of da devel) reincarnate from CN he think her beautiful.

Sythcake So what you want is basically a monster right? Seriously, go read 'Everybody Loves Large Chests' right now. This is exactly what you are looking for. Mc is a monster, a literal one. It is not some reincarnated pansy human in the skin of monster, it is a literal monster in and out. No one can be a monster better than a monster right? It does whatever it damn pleases. It wants to eat a village? Then it eats a village. Nothing can be more cruel than an actual monster. Even those so called evil mc's have points that they won't cross, but that doesn't work for a monster that isn't constrained by human morals or rules. Tho this doesn't mean it's stupid, as the story evolves and the monster gains more intelligence, it gets smarter and smarter. It doesn't do thing which may attract too much attention to itself, tho sometimes it's hard to not just eat that one annoying juicy human who talks too much haha! It's life goal is tasty things and it will do anything to obtain them. Tasty here means good for the monster. Humans are tasty, dwarfs are not as tasty, shiny things are TASTY, but getting stabbed is so not tasty!!!

Miegoreng There is no perspective about being a murderhobo without a moral compass.

N0xiety I read it and was disappointed with all the interludes, the chest barely gets any screen time. It’s a common problem with novels that write about a truly evil protagonist, they start out by introducing the villain mc but next thing we know, he barely makes an appearance once every few chapters and we are forced to read a life story of some random sobs.

Sythcake Well, i call that good world building, but everyone has their own tastes. You can also read 'Dungeon Defense', another great novel, but that one also has the same kind of world building, so i guess you won't like it either. It's not easy to find a novel that solely focuses on the mc and don't give attention to other characters.

N0xiety I liked dungeon defense actually save for the ending of every volume where the mc gets fked. Thou you can’t really compare the two, dungeon defense introduces some truly interesting characters with distinct personalities while in Chests the interludes go along the lines of “Hi, I Joe, I soldier, i born in village, have waifu, 2 kids and a dog, now I patrol cave, now I get eat by smart monster.(cept this whole joe story lasts for a huge chapter)

Sythcake Yeah, those can be annoying, tho as i remember, it wasn't that bad in ELLC. Or maybe i'm too used to it from reading all those japanese novels...

                      5 months later

Daoist Guys, Ouroboros Record, Youjo Senki, All You Need Is Kill, Infinity Armament, I Reincarnated For Nothing, The Charm Of Soul Pets, Trafford's Trading Club, Tower Of Karma, Abyss Domination.

Sythcake Now that it's open I guess I'll reply. People don't want evil MC, they think they do but they don't. You know how much shit I got just because my MC killed a ladies husband, ripped out his eyes in front of her, Riped out her eyes, cut open her stomach to steal her baby, then proceed to kill her?

Like A lot...like a looooot of hate. Still getting hate! So yea, truly evil MC don't go over well with most people.

Yep2. Evil MC is bad. Everyone want a good Protagonist.

My novel got complain because it features Arrogant Young Master as MC even when he wasn't that bad compared to true Arrogant Young Master who grab and rape girls on the street.

People here are all wrong. There is only one true type of evil protagonist. They are insanely popular in some parts of the world, but I personally hate them.
A truly evil protagonist has the following qualities:
                            - No personality.
                            - Ridiculous levels of indecisiveness.
                            - A harem of girls that throw themselves at him, but he ignores it.
                            - His mind is as dense as a black hole.
                            - He plays no active part in the story and just goes with the flow.
Yes, the truly evil protagonist is every Japanese light novel's protagonist ever made. Even Leylin from Warlock of the Magus World would tremble in fear before them. How could something so unnatural even exist?! Readers beware!
