Ever seen one of those novels with like a million reads and thousands of supporters, but when you actually read the book… it's absolute garbage!!

Does this happen a lot or are there like a few that got lucky? (Example: monarch of darkness)

There has been an inflow of new readers lately (teenagers between 14-17). Wish fullfillment stories are bound to be popular. Also, this year, there aren't any interesting translated works being published on this site. I think that is also the reason. Well, If I am to be blunt, I suppose this all started happening when My Vampire System got popular. Its just a trend. These "novels" will go down one by one when the site becomes saturated with cliche stories.

I agree with you, those fanfic harem novels are absolute garbage. It's just a pokemon copycat, just worse, way worse.

If you want to read quality novels you probably shouldn't be on webnovel. Of the '583' novels I've read on here, I would only say that about 44 were good ones.

vinthakadha I will have to disappoint you, from the looks of it your novel 'Betrayed princess - Charming Prince ' isn't fantasy but scifi, which isn't what I'm currently interested in reading. Currently, I'm experiencing Stage 2 reality check, maybe when I get to Stage 3 - Acceptance I will check your novels out!

Happy_AltRight I think popularity depends not only on the quality of the novel but also on how it is advertised (to the right audience), the way PR is handled by the author/publisher, how much exposure it gets, and a lot of other factors.

Of course, a bad novel probably won't get popular even if you get all of these right. But something doesn't need to be the best of the best to become the most popular.

For example, the most popular actor doesn't have to be the one with the best acting. He's the one who got the most suitable role in the most successful film. Is his success unwarranted? No. Does that make him the best actor? Also no.

Limpin_Technocat I think WN drew us in with ok translations and interesting novels, so it became a daily habit to read, then degenerated into a cesspool of trash novels with poor translations, but we were already hooked, so we pick over the offerings trying to find the needle in the sh1t stack. At least that's how it is with me.

Limpin_Technocat [from a shitty author: ] I have read forty-some novels in my short time on WN, and I've seen some novels with terrible writing receive praise from thousands, if not millions. It's amazing really, how they manage it. (ps: it might be my salty side speaking I apologize if this offends anyone lol)

Well duh .. EVERY HAREM NOVEL .. wanna argue over this fact FUCK OFF ..

The audience of this site is young people so yeah... They sure like harem and copied work, and I mean literally, there was a time when an author was trying to become popular by copying a story and it didn't go well since the novel was trying to copy it has a contract. And in short, the man paid a fine and disappear from Webnovel
