  • What is the most cost-efficient way to read here?

Hi!

I just recently discovered webnovel, however upon discovering the coin prices I was stunned to learn that reading one 600 chapters novel would require more than $100, which is an insane ammount.
I'm looking for a more cost-efficient way to read here.

Is there a subscription or something of the sorts that would guarantee at least 1 novel unlocked per month?

Nope. Membership merely awards you some coins per month, not nearly enough to read even a small book like that completely. And yes thats considered a small book, several on here have 3000+ chapters.

Sadly there's no cost efficient way to read on webnovel. If you don't mind a slower pace you can rely on fast passes but that's really only 3 chapters a day, if you're lucky. You could always look up the RAWs i suppose and use MTL to read cheaper but that's only really effective with the translations not the originals...

      Jesus.

The guys over at Webnovel would definitely have had more income if they made their prices reasonable.
But they're not reasonable at all. A few hundred $ for one novel is fucking absurd.

Well to be fair its a bit more than "one" novel. Typical novels only have around 30 to 40 chapters so you're paying for about 20 books in one big omnibus which more or less comes out about the same cost, least over here in Canada.

Still topping up 5500 coins and realizing you need to do that four or five times to fully catch up with a 3000 chapter book is no less painful.

There is the option of trying to find a book that has all the chapters free. I've seen some like that, although they are quite rare. Mine is an example of this rare type, but I'm not going to promote that here unless you want the link.

Actually, I'm always curious why there isn't some type of subscription plan similar to Netflix available? Pay a monthly fee and you can read as many as you like. Or like Disney+, where you pay a basic fee, and only get charged additionally when you want to view certain new ones.

I'm primarily a writer here, so I don't know if this idea is agreeable to most readers.

It's also very curious, because this coin system seems to be widely accepted in China. Maybe it costs less to buy coins there.

It was done a few years ago actually. Webnovels original subscription service. The problem being authors didn't make much of anything off the service. Its like being asked to build a house but rather than being paid by the hour you only get a one time payment of that hourly wage.

Its just not worth the time and energy.

As for it being cheaper in China... of course. There's no need to translate anything so they just buy the volumes as they are released. Thats the kicker. There's a person being paid to translate many of these books from Chinese to English and being a company, its not a labor of love, rather its a paid position.

Though this point is becoming more laughable as more recent titles are rather obviously being mtl'd...

Darth_Xiane but more words per chapter with ghosts writers and possibility official publishing. Whereas webnovel has translated works, translated but changed cause they can, some decent orginals but alot more passion projects where people thing they are the best writer which are mostly mediocre to poor.

Won't deny the quality aspect leaves alot to be desired but its still wrong to think that one book on here equates to one typical published novel. Is why I mention that they're more akin to omnibus'. Webnovel books are more akin to those series of books like Naruto, Bleach etc. While they don't have graphics its still a story that is broken across some twenty to thirty or more volumes. Imagine trying to buy the entire Naruto story, its not just one novel after all. There's scores of volumes which when bought easily crosses the hundreds of bucks to buy from book 1.

Though, again, the quality is still a sore point. No denying the quality is far worse on webnovel. But, what can one do? This is the legal route of accessing the translations of stories licensed by qidian. Its not like the translations are legally sold cheaper on another site to force them to step up their quality, its either here or do it yourself kinda thing... The typical problem with a monopoly.
