VynDahl not really. Sounds stupid, but definitely works. Although I was being sarcastic about it, I still get duped by those kind of LNs from time to time. I mean, just look at LotHP. As long as there's a good humor involved, everyone will turn a blind eye to these cliches.
bachingchung I hate the auction cliche. I always skip the auction chapters when I come to them. It's usually, priceless treasures the MC can't afford he somehow can either through selling overly precious items of his own or some other means.
We have the rooster show where the MC goes to buy something is mocked or threatened but the MC manages to embarras someone into silence.
MC wins all of the auction items.
MC has ticked off all the major powers in the area and they're waiting for him outside. This usually leads to a chase that almost kills him or other shenanigans ensue.
If the MC failed to get something at the auction, even if he was only mildly curious about it the winner is either killed in such a way where the MC gets all of his treasures. Or for some reason, the person who wins the item just decides to give it to the MC.
Me hate auctions!
Plus, every auction is always run by either a beautiful woman that he'll probably never date or by an overly powerful old fart.
VynDahl what?! I love auctions! Those are the best parts for me. Auctions, farming and academy days. Those are my faves. Besides, everytime something is missing, it will coincidentally appears on the auction despite of the slim chance.
bachingchung Academy days I enjoy, but I hate auctions, too predictable.
bachingchung I will assume this to be sarcasm?
Water0202020 that is true however as a novelist I think it is a good goal to be ahead of the game and not just another sheep in the back. For a truly great read generally they have been the trend setters with their own quirks and twists to their plots. They have something that defines them and differentiates them from the rest of the competition. That's the message to take home.
Originality doesn't always mean completely knew. It can sometimes be a different take on a already existing idea. This is what I mean by original. A totally new concept it near impossible in this day and age but how it is presented/done is not.
Blackest i have few comments already, which one?
Blackest it's so hard to write an original concept. And even if you read a 100 novels here, you might not even see one. I remember my first Issekai. It got my blood boiling from all the hype. How i wish to feel that again.

I honestly just read to read. Whatever keeps me reading, does so. Those that do, are typicaly the ones with the traits OP mentioned. Honestly thats is what I view the xianxia genre as... Cliche bullshit. Tbh the best works don't get translated because of the lack of people interested in stories lacking those features. Perhaps you should avoid shounen styled stories.
bachingchung Hmm, instead of good humor, most of the time I'd say it was forced. Especially after some romance gets mixed in...
ChainedGhost I gave up on good romance. Chinese literature lacks a lot of feminine touch from what I observed. Everything is kill or be killed.
