I keep reading amazing stories on the app, but the grammar, or the English itself isn't very good, especially for translated works, or authors whose first language is not English. How do I become an editor, and is it payable

As a freelance book editor: the Webnovel "editors" seem to be content managers who maybe give a little bit of developmental advice to contracted writers.

As best as I can tell, they do no actual line editing or copyediting. You can do what I do and reach out to people when they say they're looking for editors, but be aware that most people on this site simply can't afford even the most basic editing.

And, like, I get it. The publishing standard on Webnovel seems to be 1,000 to 2,000 words per day. There's no reasonable way anyone except a top earner on the site could afford editing for that much text every single day. A pretty common offer from writers seems to be $5 USD per chapter (which may be anywhere from 1000 to 3000 words) with no real expectations of what kind of editing they're actually getting.

Because of the abysmal quality of the text to begin with, this comes out to like... maybe a couple dollars per hour.

And the sad truth is that most readers either won't care about the better quality or, in an unfortunately high number of cases, will have basically learned to read English from this terrible mechanical quality and will believe that the stories with proper grammar are full of mistakes because they're different from what they know.

But if you don't care about the money and simply want to support a story you like even if few people will appreciate it? Drop a comment on one of the chapters and reach out to the author. I'm sure they'd be grateful for the help and encouragement.

EldritchBlade I agree with everything you said. I, myself, learned English from translating novels word by word, even from machine translations, and it took me years to finally get a grasp of the correct grammar and appreciate it.

I easily make $32,000-$38,000 each month just by doing a simple home business. This job is online and can be done very easily part-time or full-time, although no specific experience is required for this job. Anyone can join this work now and start earning like me.

Deborah_Weyao well you can create your own discussion post here on forum and ask writers if they are interested in hiring editors. However please make sure to discuss your deal details in private social accounts such as discord ,etc. Other way is probably by contacting webnovel team to hire you as content editor. Though I am not sure how the process works.

Content editors do not edit contents, guys. Content editors are there to read your content and offer you contract and then subsequent contract - related service.
They don't correct your grammar or spelling or what not.

I work as an editor for $3/ chpt for authors and the unfortunate reality for the Non-English authors is that the editors of webnovel aren't really useful if you need detailed editing. So unless they got the bucks to pay, their only option is online translation systems which we all know are dreadful to read. It is quite unfortunate when the story is good but the grammar is unreadable.
